Nutrilite Double X Multivitamin Review

Nutrilite Double X is a multivitamin that contains a wide variety of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients per serving. If you have not heard of Nutrilite, according to its researchers, it is one of the world’s leading brand of dietary supplements. My review on Double X is based on taste, price, energy level, vitamins and minerals, and health benefits.

Double X Multivitamin
Nutrilite Double X – Retail Price: $29.95 (10-day supply) $74.75 (31-day supply)
Size: 60 tablets (10-day supply), 186 tablets (31-day supply)
Taste: 6/10
Price: 7/10
Energy Level: 7/10
Vitamins & Minerals: 9/10
Health Benefits: 6/10

According to Amway/Quixtar IBOs, Double X is one of the best multivitamins on the market, because it contains more plant concentrates than the leading brands of multivitamin. Is this why Double X is more expensive than the leading brands of multivitamin? Or is this just a marketing trick to encourage you to buy it?

Nutrilite Double X review

At the price of about $75.00 it is expensive, but when you break it down the cost is about $2.50 per day. From this perspective, it is a decent bargain, but it would have been an even better bargain if all of its vitamins were high quality and extracted from better or natural sources. How do I know some of its vitamins are low quality? Please read the whole review and you will find out. Like most multivitamins, it does not taste sweet like candy cane. Instead, it has a light-bitter herbal-like flavor.

Double X is a supplement that I can usually take without any problem, because the tablet is not too large and it does not have any major side effects. I took Double X regularly for a week, than stopped taking it for a few days and felt a noticeable change in energy. I usually take this supplement on a semi or full stomach to avoid the minor side effects. Taking this supplement on an empty stomach gives me a minor upset stomach and makes me feel lightheaded. The feeling usually lasts for about 15-20 minutes.

I do not recommend taking more than two servings of Double X per day, because you may end up consuming too much vitamins and minerals, which can be toxic in the long-run, especially if they are not created properly.

Is Double X all natural?

The video at the bottom of this page claims that Double X has more plant concentrates than three of the top multivitamins combined: Advance Formula Centrum, One-A-Day, and Pharmanex Life Essentials. Double X may have more plant concentrates, but many of its vitamins and minerals are synthetic. This was a little shocking because according to the video Nutrilite grows, harvests and processes plants for its vitamins on its own certified organic farms.

Some of the synthetic vitamins in Double X are vitamin A, C, E, vitamin B1 (thaimin), B6, B12 and niacin. According to the supplement facts, 75 percent of vitamin A is from natural beta carotene. Independent researchers suggested that synthetic vitamins do not work as well as natural vitamins and some may even be toxic.

Vitamin toxicity can occur if the vitamin is not created properly or contaminated with harmful substances, such as aluminum and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). These types of problem happen more than people may realize. The synthetic vitamins and potential GMO contaminants in Double X are some of the reasons why I stopped taking Double X.

How do I know Double X contains low quality synthetic vitamins and minerals?

To find out if Double X’s vitamins and minerals are synthetic or cheaply made, you need to look at the supplement facts on the back of the box. Below is a list of some of the vitamins and minerals listed on the box of Double X.

  • Vitamin B6 (from pyridoxine hydrochloride): “From pyridoxine hydrochloride” means that the source of vitamin B6 is from pyridoxine hydrochloride which is the synthetic version of B6.
  • Vitamin C (from ascorbic acid): Ascorbic acid is the synthetic version of vitamin C. The natural vitamin C complex is made of many different synergistic components. Ascorbic acid is only a small part of the whole chemical structure of vitamin C.
  • Vitamin B12 (from cyanocobalamin): Cyanocobalamin is only one part of the vitamin B12 complex. Cyanocobalamin is easy to create in lab and is cheap, which is why supplement manufacturers love using it. The natural version of B12 is created by bacteria and is more expensive to make.
  • Magnesium (from magnesium oxide): Two of the best sources of magnesium are magnesium taurate and magnesium citrate, because they are easy to absorb and utilize by the body. Magnesium oxide is hard for the body to utilize and is very hard to absorb.

These are just a few example of the cheap vitamins found in Double X. Once you learn how to tell if a vitamin is synthetic or not, and high quality or not, you will know if the supplement you are buying is high quality. The supplement facts will usually help you with this. By reading Double X supplement facts, it becomes clear that it is just an average dietary supplement that is overpriced.

It is important to know that not all synthetic vitamins are bad. Some do work but you need to find the ones that are easy to absorb and are created with care. The problem with vitamins is that they are usually dried with high heat before being packaged. This drying process will destroy some of the vitamins that are sensitive to heat. As a result, the amount of vitamins you get per serving is misleading.

Genetically modified food hazard

Nutrilite Double X contains soy protein isolate, corn starch and modified food starch. These ingredients tell me that there is a very high probability, over 90 percent chance that Double X contains genetically modified ingredients. Genetically modified food has been known to cause harmful side effects and severe health problems in animals. To learn more about genetically modified food, read this informative article titled Health Risks of Genetically Modified Food.

Multivitamin tips

Multivitamins are good for helping you get the necessary vitamins and minerals you need for optimal health, but most of them are not as effective as eating raw plant-based food, such as organic fruits and vegetables.

To get all the recommended vitamins and minerals every day from food, you may need to prioritize your food which can be a hassle. Depending on what you are eating, calories could also be a problem. This is why it is a good idea to take high quality vitamin supplements with whole food, such as organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains and organic meat for optimal health.

Before purchasing dietary supplements, make sure you understand the differences between natural and synthetic vitamins. Most supplement manufacturers like to use synthetic vitamins because they are cheaper to make. Many synthetic vitamins are less effective due to the fact that they are harder to absorb and are missing many of the key synergistic components that are found in nature.

Recommended natural and high quality dietary supplements

You can order this product directly from the company at And as a referred customer, you can order anything at distributor price, which makes Double X $53.90.

  2. reetika says:

what are the side effects if somebody ate double x vitamins which got expired a month ago?

    • Andrew says:

The Nutritional benefits of the products have decreased and thats why it does have an expiration date on the Double X not because of any health side effects. Then again if anything was expired lets say 1 year of more. I would not consume it anyway. Any more questions about Double X or how to order double X please feel free to contact me anytime.

  3. PL Chang says:

Most vitamins have expiration dates for quality issues. Once vitamins reach their expiration date, they lose a lot of their potency. I haven’t try Double X that has been expired so I don’t know the side effects. If it has only been a month, then there shouldn’t be any problems, but to be on the safe side I would avoid it and get a new pack.

  4. marimar says:

hola soy de colombia y quiero comprar el double pero no lo consigo donde lo compro en clombia ciudad barranquilla chao

  5. Dina says:

If you are taking the womans simply 4 vitamins in a pack, is it safe to take double x, or just stick with one?

  6. PL Chang says:

Two servings of Double X already have enough of the recommended daily value of vitamins and minerals. I suggest sticking with one to reduce the chance of consuming too much synthetic vitamins.

  7. Matthew Hendrikse says:

yo soy distribudor. si quiere, yo le puedo ayudar ordenar.

  8. Mr. Jason says:

I have some Double X that I have had for a few years. I was curious about the expiration of these. They are no longer in their original packaging so there is no expiration date.

What is the typical life of these vitamins once they have been removed from their original packaging?

    • Andrew says:

Double X has an expiration date of about one year. I would just recommend replenishing your supply then using the expired Mutlivitamin

  9. Kevin says:

I’m not too sure about Double X but most multivitamins can last 1 to 2 years before they lose more than 90% of their potency. Light, air, temperature and moisture plays a major role on how fast vitamins lose their potency. If it has been more than 2 years, I would buy a new bottle.

  10. Kodi says:

Is double X safe to take with blood pressure medicine Cozaar and also paxil (the paxil is only as needed for palpitations) Are there any known side effects or things to watch out for if i am mixing these two medications

  11. kevin says:

Cozaar can potentially interact with medicine, such as Diuretics, Rifampin, Nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs, Fluconazole and Potassium supplements or salt substitutes. If you are taking these medicine with Cozaar, pay close attention to any major changes in your body.

Double X has low doses of Potassium, about 1 percent of the recommendation daily value. This should not be a problem but watch what you eat because most people get their potassium from the food they eat. Having too much potassium in the body can lead to Hyperkalemia which can cause heart failure.

As for side effects, I can’t give a precise answer because I don’t have any experience with Cozaar and Paxil. As always, consult with a professional, such as your doctor or someone who specialized in these kind of medicine before mixing Cozaar.

The problem with these types of medicine is that they are not made to cure you. Drug companies purposely do this so they can make as much money as they can from you. Try going on a healthy diet by eating organic food rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber, and avoid processed food, especially fast food. These types of food is one of the best tools for preventing health problems.

  12. Kay says:

Me and my husband wanted to have child. My age 38 and my husband 40, we married for 5 years. What supplement should we take? Is double x is enough?

  13. PL Chang says:

If you are talking about just any vitamins, Double X should be enough. If you are talking about high quality natural vitamins, then Double X is not the best choice. Double X has good amounts of B-vitamins which are important for pregnancy, especially vitamin B9. One serving of double x contains B-12 (375% DV), B-9 (100% DV), B-7 (50% DV), B-6 (375% DV), B-5 (250% DV), B-3 (100% DV), B-2 (375% DV), B-1 (375% DV) per serving. Vitamin B9 is important during pregnancy because it helps prevent neural tube defects in newborns.

One thing that concerns me about Double X is that many of its B-vitamins are synthetic and not natural. Plus, there is a very high chance that it contains genetically modified ingredients because it contains soy protein isolate, corn starch and modified food starch. If you are pregnant, I recommend staying away from most synthetic vitamins and especially genetically modified food.

  14. dblxisgreat says:

I have been taking Double X for about 2 years and whenever I forget to take it for a day, I notice a big difference in my energy levels.

Highly recommend it. Just make sure you eat it with or immediately after a meal. These vitamins break down quickly and will upset an empty stomach.

  15. Wim says:

I was planning to buy DoubleX for my parents. they have joint pains, is this multivitamin recommended for joint pains. They have already tried One a day but that was not much of help. Please advice. Thanks.

  16. Ville-Veikko Elomaa says:

Is it safe to consume Double-X during pregnancy?

    • PL Chang says:

Many of the minerals and vitamins in Double X are synthetic and thus they are hard to absorb and might cause negative effects to you and your baby’s health. What I’m most concern about are the soy protein isolate, corn starch and modified food starch in Double X. These ingredients tell me that there is a very high chance that Double X contains genetically modified ingredients. My advise is to stay away from genetically modified food.

I suggest finding a dietary supplement that uses natural vitamins instead of synthetic. Natural vitamins made from whole food are usually more effective. Make sure you get enough of vitamin B9 because it may help prevent neural tube defects in newborns.

  17. Marcia says:

Hello- Does your product line carry a 100% guarantee of no banned substances for olympic athletes? Please advise.
    Thank you,

    • PL Chang says:

As far as I know, Double X doesn’t have any banned substances. I don’t sell Double X so I don’t know for sure. According to Nutrilite, Asafa Powell, an Olympic gold medalist and one of the world’s fastest men, uses Double X.

      • Nick Rosman says:

Yes double x has nothing in it banned by the WADA (world anti-doping agency)so is safe to take for athletes. and Amway Global forces it’s IBO to take back any product it sells at 100% money back. even if its empty and you say ‘meh i dont like it’you get all your money back. My parents are IBO’s and I’ve heard / seen this a few times. a link to there website is linked.

Since you are a distributor, do you know if Double X vitamins are safe to take with birth control pills, such as Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo? Or will it interfere with it? Thanks for any help.

  20. Ramgopal says:

Please let me know if kid of the age of 7 years can take Double X multi-vitamin tablets and what dosage?

    • PL Chang says:

I don’t recommend giving kids too much multivitamins because most multivitamins are synthetic and cheaply made. Double X has a good amount of synthetic vitamins. There are dietary supplements that contain natural vitamins. Most of them are available as single vitamin or a group of vitamins, such as B-complex. Multivitamins are not created to replace the essential nutrients found in natural food. Vitamins in nature are very complex, extracting every components in the chemical structure of a vitamin is very expensive. This is why most multivitamin companies don’t extract the whole chemical structure of their vitamins. If they were to make all their vitamins natural (organic), a bottle of their multivitamin would cost a lot more.

If you want to increase your kid’s nutrient intakes, organic raw plant-based food along with high quality natural supplement is one of the best ways. If you are going to give your kid Double X, 1 serving per day should be fine. A word of caution: Double X contains soy protein isolate, corn starch and modified food starch. These ingredients tell me that there is a very high probability, over 90 percent chance, that it contains genetically modified ingredients.

  21. tomie j.e says:

i’m a distributor of nutrilite and has been seeking so much about nutrilite before joining amway. i’ve got many experiences consuming double x and there were no negatives or what so ever. actually double x are truly natural and approved by WADA. consuming it once a day would be great for your body and i have seen many people that came to me and told me how their pain like athritis, high blood pressure, joint pain, back pain, etc slowly by time gone. i do experience one pain myself and now started to play sports again. since 2005 double x were upgraded and came to be more positive side.

  22. brenda says:

When you say one serving, what do you mean?
Is it 1 gold, 1 silver, & 1 bronze double X tabs a day? Thanks,

  23. PL Chang says:

Yes, one serving of Double X is: 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze tablet.

  24. Claudia says:

Hi, my name is Claudia I have been taking double x since 4 years ego, I have 2 girls and a boy, and they don’t have any problems at all. They don’t even visit the doctor frecuently like other childen. And my recuperation after delivery was even faster as my first baby (in that time I did not take vitamins). I’m so happy to find this suplements

  25. Mike says:

Given multiple claims that Nutrilite contains all natural ingredients, what evidence do you have that it contains synthetics? One of my friends distributes the stuff and he’s somewhat annoyingly adamant about it.

  26. PL Chang says:

    Hello Mike,

The reason why I said that some of the vitamins and minerals in Double X are not natural is because they are isolated forms. In nature vitamins are never isolated. For example, folic acid (found in Double X) is the isolated form of folate. Folate is made up of naturally occurring chemical compounds called polyglutamates. Because folic acid is the isolated form, it is missing many of the benefits of the non-isolated form. Most folic acid found in dietary supplement is processed in labs because it is cheaper. The same goes for many other vitamins and minerals. If Double X were “all natural” it would cost a lot more.

The term “natural” can be misleading. Food and supplement manufacturers don’t have to go through a verification process to use the term “natural” on their products. This means that they can add synthetic vitamins, minerals and preservatives and still claim that their products are natural. As for the term “organic,” they have to go through a verification process.

It all depends on how you defy the term “natural”. This is why I said that the term “natural” can be misleading. I define “natural” as something that is in its pure natural state. If its chemical compounds are altered or isolated from its whole chemical structure, than it is not 100 percent natural.

  27. Silver J says:

What are some cheaper alternatives to this?

    • PL Chang says:

Some of the cheaper alternatives to Double X are Advance Formula Centrum and One-A-Day. Although they are cheaper, they most likely contain cheap synthetic vitamins too.

    • Brian says:

I bought the Double X vitamins for quite a few years, and really liked them. I’m taking a liquid vitamin called 10-in-One through GBG, which is about $20 less expensive for a month’s supply, and I feel it has a wider array of ingredients.

  28. Lou says:

PL, are there any ingredients that Nutrilite puts in their products (double x, slimmetry, carb blocker etc) that are potentially harmful and could cause possible death?

I want to sell Nutrilite Products but I dont want to be responsible if people get stupid and dont take the supplements properly and hurt themselves.

    • PL Chang says:

      Hello Lou,

Out of the 3 Nutrilite vitamin you mentioned, Double X is the one I’m the most concern because it contains large amounts of synthetic ingredients. Carb Blocker and Slimmetry seems to be natural enough because their vitamins are extracted from herb sources. By looking at their ingredients, I didn’t see any ingredients that are very hazardous. Some researchers suggested that silicon dioxide can be toxic to the body, which is found in Carb Blocker and Slimmetry.

If they follow the product’s directions, it shouldn’t cause any major health problems. If it were up to me, I would rather have people consume organic raw plant-based food to get their vitamins. These types of food have hundreds of nutrients, some even not yet known to scientists.

  29. Silver J says:

What do you think about these vitamins? And thanks for the quick response.

    • PL Chang says:

By looking at its ingredient list and supplement facts, I would say it is better and more natural than most supplements. The only way to really know for sure is to find a scientist to test the vitamins. If I was looking for a supplement to buy, this vitamin that you linked to would be one of my choices.

If you do end up purchasing this supplement, stop back and let me know if this is a supplement that you would recommend.

      • Silver J says:

It’s funny you say find a scientist to test them as I am one thought I deal mostly with ecology and the marine environment. When I get some money I’ll check them out.

        • PL Chang says:

One of these days I may have to find a chemistry expert or hire a chemistry professor from the University of Minnesota to test a few of the top multivitamin and write a post about it. I think it would be very interesting to see the results! This way there will be no lobbyists or vitamin manufacturers influencing the results.

  30. Ryan says:

    Thanks for the review,
imho your review seems to be the most fair and honest..
and now im planning to get a better alternatives than
    double x.
    any suggestion?

    • PL Chang says:

I’m glad that my review helped you out! As for an alternative, it is hard to say because most multivitamins are full of unnatural and cheap ingredients.

For now, the link from Silver J is the multivitamin that looks natural enough to consume on a daily basis. Visit the link below for more details.

      Naturally Direct.

One of the best places to find organic and natural high quality supplements is at this online store. Look for the supplements that are extracted from whole foods or natural sources.

  31. lucy says:

Do double x vitamins interfere with birth control pills?

    • PL Chang says:

As far as I know there are no vitamins that can significantly interfere with birth control pills. However, certain health experts claimed that birth control pill can prevent the body from assimilating vitamin C, B6, B9 and B12 properly.

Two substances that you should be aware of are Soy Isoflavones and St. John’s Wort. These two substances have been known to interfere with birth control pill. Certain antibiotics are known to reduce the effectiveness of birth control pill too. The two that I heard of are Rifampin and Rifabutin.

  32. violet says:

I began taking double x as a scheptic but I truly saw the energy and how my health improved, I was no longer making a trip to the doctors office every 2 months because I was sick. I eventually became an IBO to get the best pricing for myself and a few other family members that now take the vitamins as well.

  33. laura says:

Even though I am a Quixtar IBO, I would like to think of my opinion as un-biased since we started using quixtar’s products before we got into the business.
Nutrilite has been around for many many many years and people like my grandparents and great grand parents have been using their products since the company was started.
My great-grandmother was one of the first IBO’s. She actually knew Jay Van Andle (Co-founder of Amway).
She used all of their products and lived a long life and died of old age.
My grandmother and grandfather are in their 80’s and are still going strong, they both work full time, exercise and have tons of energy. They give Double X all the credit. My mother also takes Double X. My husband and I have noticed a significant change in our energy and over all well being since taking Double X on a daily basis. I take Double X in the morning and late at night before I go to bed. I have even noticed that I am sleeping more soundly and waking feeling energized and in a good mood… (not a morning person 😉 ) My husband is a professional power lifter and Double X is on the only “multi-vitamin” that he takes. He also uses Nutrilite’s sports bars, drinks and protein powders/shakes.

Does double X help you lose weight?

  37. Claudette says:

    Hi there,
I’ve just discovered I’m pregnant! I’m 37 yrs old and this is my third pregnancy. I have a 12 yr old daughter and twin boys who are 7 yrs old. I’m taking Nutrilite vitamin – Calcium Magnesium, Vitamin B Complex, Concentrated Fruit & Veg, Vitamin C Plus and Omega 3. Should I continue with these vitamin or include more. Is it safe to use during pregnancy?

    • PL Chang says:

The vitamins you mentioned should be safe enough as long as you don’t consume more than the recommendation per serving. Vitamin toxicity is usually rare. Most of the time vitamin toxicity occurs because of poor quality vitamins or contamination. I’m not a big fan of relying too much on dietary supplements because most vitamins found in dietary supplements are low quality and synthetic. Also, many dietary supplements are contaminated with genetically modified ingredients.

Unlike vitamins found in nature, vitamins in dietary supplement are not created with the concept of balance, so they tend to work against the natural systems of the body. The main reason why manufacturer uses synthetic vitamins is because they yield more profit. When it comes to your baby’s health, going the cheap route may not be the best route.

To be on the safe side, you should replace some of your supplements with organic fruits and vegetables. Their vitamins are natural and contain other synergistic components that are not found in supplements. Also, consult with your doctor before going on any supplement diet while you are pregnant.

  38. Shane says:

I am an Amway Global IBO. I have been taking Double X for the past month and a half, and I have to say, after reading every comment on here, PL Chang is on top of what he is saying.

Taking Double X, you feel amazing, I am always in a good mood now, noticed a huge energy boost daily, my metabolisim has sped up, I’m no where near as tired at work everyday, and even my roomate used to get painful migraines almost everyday, he has been taking Double X for a month, and has not had a headache since.

Even though I sell it, I recommend it to everyone, merely because it works amazingly. Sure, the taste isn’t the greatest, but as your mom always told you as a child, the medicine that’s tastes the worst, works the best.

Another alternative to the Double X, is the Daily multivitamin available from Nutrilite as well. it is just under half the price, has 100-150% of most of its ingredients.

They also make a Daily Free multivitamin, the Daily Free has no Iron in it, so you don’t have to worry about consuming too much Iron.

  39. gulnar says:

Does Double X help women woho are trying to conceive?

    • PL Chang says:

According to researchers, vitamin C can aid in conception. Double X does contain vitamin C but it is not the version found in nature. The vitamin C found in Double X is ascorbic acid. The vitamin C found in nature contains the whole chemical structure and many other synergistic components which can increase its effectiveness.

Because Double X contains ascorbic acid, it may help with conception. However, I don’t think it will help too much. I suggest adding more organic fruits and vegetables in your diet, exercise regularly and drink only filtered water free of fluoride. I highly recommend getting a water purification system install in your home. Combining these methods with supplements and it should increase your chance of conceiving.

  40. Krystal says:

    Mr. PL,

I have been doing my own study of double X but what multivitamin do you take if any?

    • PL Chang says:

Right now I don’t take any multivitamin. I get most of my vitamins and minerals from eating a lot of “raw” organic plant-based foods. In my opinion, they are the best for providing me the essential nutrients needed to sustain a healthy body.

The only vitamin that I take is vitamin D3. I only take it during the winter seasons because of the lack of sunlight. The lack of sunlight makes it harder for the skin to produce vitamin D. According to health experts, vitamin D is very effective for fighting the flu virus.

  41. Chantelle says:

Hi. I have just started using double x. My niece started using it and said she didn’t notice anything until she stopped – then she felt sluggish and lacking in energy.
Unfortunately, my partner has stopped taking it. He would take the tablets with food, but about an 30 min to an hour later he would get a really bad headache. What is in double x that would cause this?

    • PL Chang says:

There could be many reasons why your partner is getting headaches from taking double x. To pinpoint the main reason is not going to be easy without doing some tests. Below are some reasons why double x could be causing your partner headaches.

      1. Double x has a wide variety of synthetic vitamins and minerals. Having all these vitamins and minerals in the stomach at once may cause certain reactions that can be uncomfortable. When I used to take double x, I usually got an upset stomach and felt lightheaded after taking it, especially on an empty stomach.

      2. The double x that your partner is taking could be contaminated with certain substances that is causing your partner headaches.

      3. The vitamins and minerals in double x may be helping your partner’s body to detox toxins. During this process, your partner can experience headaches.

These are just some possibilities that may be the cause of your partner’s headaches after taking double x. If the headaches is really bad, it would be wise to stop taking it until you find the cause of the problem.

Some NUTRILITE supplements contain vitamins from both natural and synthetic sources. We use both sources because, without synthetic vitamins, some of our supplements would not supply the optimum nutrient levels. In these cases, delivering enough nutrients without synthetic vitamins would require tablets that would be far too large for human consumption. So some products are formulated with a combination of synthetic vitamins and plant concentrates to deliver the important phytonutrients along with the nutritional levels that are consistent with leading science.

Are all the ingredients in NUTRILITE products grown at your own farms?
While we strive to grow as many of the plants that go into our concentrates as we can, the total product demand makes it impossible to produce and manufacture all of the ingredients and quantities required. Our stringent Supplier Certification Program ensures that any crops grown by others on our behalf meet our strict GMP standards.

How long are NUTRILITE products on storage shelves before being packaged and shipped?
On average, tablets are stored in the warehouse for less than one week before they are packaged and shipped to more than 40 different countries.

        What are NUTRILITE nutrigenomic supplements?
Nutrigenomic supplements are personalized nutrition recommendations designed for certain genotypes, as discovered through DNA testing for a predisposition to certain diseases and conditions.

What quality tests are performed on NUTRILITE products?
Quality experts for the NUTRILITE brand perform over 15,000 tests a month on our products. Seven different types of tests are performed to ensure quality:

1.Dissolution Testing checks for the ability of a nutrient to go into a solution.
2.Disintegration Testing ensures the tablets disintegrate in 30 minutes or less.
3.Micro Limit Testing checks plate counts and the absence of pathogens.
4.Macro-Nutrient Testing checks for the amounts of fat, fiber, protein and carbohydrates.
5.Micro-Nutrient Testing ensures label claims for all vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.
6.Raw Material Testing ensures the raw materials are the right quality to make the tablets.
7.Stability Testing checks the shelf-life of the tablets.

Those are some impressive claims! Unfortunately, not all of it is true. Most people don’t realize that the scientists doing these tests on Nutrilite’s product are sponsored by Nutrilite. Therefore, these scientists are encourage not to say negative things about Nutrilite’s product. If they do, they are risking their job or sponsorship. Give double x to independent researchers to do the tests and the result will be different. Why? Because they are not influenced by money. I’m very aware of this which is why I don’t take compensation for my reviews. This way I don’t have to follow companies guideline when reviewing their products.

I have hung around business people long enough to know how the world of business operates. Money is their top priority, then everything else follows. If Nutrilite wants to create vitamin supplements that are better than average, they should of went for the organic seal. I’m sure they didn’t go for the organic seal because they know their vitamins will not be approved. Also, it cost more money and they would have to change how their vitamins are processed. To be able to use the organic seal, companies have to go through a verification process. This process also needs to be renew every so often.

I personally think most multivitamins are a waste of money because they are made of cheap vitamins that are hard to absorb. If you are worried about vitamin deficiency, go visit your doctor and ask for a blood test. The vitamins that you lack most should be the vitamins that should buy and consume. When the body gets too much of a certain vitamin, it will usually expel it through urine.

I was just wondering, do not take this the wrong way but I would like to know what exactly makes you an expert…
and if you were selling a product, which you kind of do (do you bash your website? do you bash your opinions?), you wouldn’t speak badly about it.

    • Chrystal says:

If anyone would like to take a look for themselves about the nutrilite products, here is a link.

    • PL Chang says:

I have no interest in selling Nutrilite products. However, some of their vitamins are decent and they do have good knowledge about the vitamin industry. I don’t like to bash companies. I only like to expose the truth. Whether it is positive or negative, it is still truth. I don’t see how that is bashing a company.

      • Chrystal says:

No, obviously you didn’t read my comment or didn’t understand it. I was not asking if you wanted to sell the product. I was stating that in a past comment you made you said that people who sell it and/or the scientists who research it for the company don’t say bad things about Double X. I was simply stating that of course they do not say negative things about their product, they truly believe in it because in most cases they are also customers who take it. I was also saying that this website is your product, you believe in it right? So why would you say bad things about your “product?” And you still did not answer my question, not to be confused with being sarcastic or snarky, but what makes you an “expert?”

        • PL Chang says:

Yes, I can see where you are coming from. My website is kind of like my product so I usually don’t say bad things about it. However, any criticism about my website is appreciated. I see criticism as a good thing, it allows me to see the areas that I need to improve.

It may be true that the scientists who do these test for Nutrilite like their products, but that doesn’t mean that their claims are for the best of the public. We all know how far companies will go to make money off of people. As for the IBOs that sell Nutrilite products, they need to educate themselves more so they are not misleading their customers.

I don’t consider myself an expert, just a regular person who likes to think “outside of the box,” like Albert Einstein. Unfortunately, people who think outside of the box are considered “bad” people. Most of my knowledge comes from hanging out with nutritionists, alternative medicine practitioners, and from reading books that are outside the realm of conventional medicine. I also study energy medicine. I don’t like to rely on the conventional education system because it is becoming too corrupt with greed and selfish agendas.

As a person who study quantum mechanics, consciousness science, alternative medicine, conventional medicine, western and eastern medicine, and energy medicine (all on my spare time), I do have more knowledge than most people in these fields and I’m able to understand things that most people don’t. Even with all these knowledge, I don’t consider myself as an expert and I’m no better than anyone else.

They raised the price quite a bit since I was selling them a few years ago.. thankfully the vitamins I’m taking now are less than $30 for a month’s supply.

  44. Marc Lemay says:

    Hi P.L.,
I’m a Senior Scientist at Nutrilite, and my comments here do not necessarily reflect those of my employer. I wanted to comment on an older post for which commenting was closed. It was a review of Nutrilite DOUBLE X, but my comments are also germane to this post about natural vitamins.I was struck by several things in your review of Double X and the comments it elicited over the almost two years since you first posted it. Much of the discussion revolves around your gauge of quality, which is whether a given multivitamin is “natural” or not. You are correct in stating that Double X is not all-natural. It contains both natural and synthetic nutrients. (But your listing of the Supplement Facts for Double X omits over half the ingredients actually listed.) Distributors who claim it is all-natural are betraying their misunderstanding of their own product and undermining their own as well as the brand’s credibility. I suspect that that’s where the confusion comes from – there’s so much talk about phytonutrients and plant concentrates in Double X that people assume it must be entirely made of plants. We use both natural and synthetic ingredients for several reasons, including cost, nutrient content, and manufacturability. An all-natural multisupplement, such as one you recommend elsewhere on your website, would provide very low levels of several essential nutrients. For example, I calculated that with the all-natural supplement that gets your thumbs up, the maximum dosage of nine tablets a day provides only 15 mcg of folic acid. The Daily Value for folic acid is 400 mcg. An “all-natural” supplement thus does a poor job of actually supplementing the diet with useful amounts of any nutrients – providing in this case less than 5% of the minimum amount of folate needed every day to stave off a deficiency disease. And so on for every nutrient in an “all-natural” multi: they’re there at such low levels you’d have to a meal of them to get a reasonable amount. And that’s just my point: there’s nothing wrong with “all-natural” vitamins and minerals. Here the best recommendation is: walk down to your local grocery store or farmer’s market and get yourself some fresh fruits and vegetables; better yet, supplement your diet with fruits and vegetables you grow yourself. But in some cases – opinions vary; for instance, you have apparently stopped taking Double X along with any other supplements – it is necessary to supplement even a very healthy diet in order to support optimal health goals rather than just avoid deficiency disease.
Don’t confuse the “natural” vs. “synthetic” issue with other questions such as contamination or heat-treatment during processing. It’s not true that “synthetic” vitamins are more prone to contamination with aluminium or anything else. On the contrary, quality control is much more demanding for a natural vitamin than for a synthetic. To paraphrase Gary Reineccius from his excellent article in Scientific American on the mistaken but commonly held belief that “natural flavors” are inherently better than synthetic flavors, Nature has no restrictions on using toxic chemicals, whereas the synthetic chemist does. Also, synthetic vitamins are not heat-treated; it’s plant concentrates that often must be gently heated to dehydrate them and reduce bulk and improve stability.
In your own list of recommended minerals you mention several synthetic forms (no proprietary chelated minerals would be considered natural, since they are manufactured in a laboratory), so your own definition of “natural” is unclear. Behind this whole confused and confusing notion of “natural” lies, in my opinion, an entirely legitimate worry, or quest: a worry that by popping pills down our throats we might be harming ourselves; and a quest for healthy living filled with vitality and energy. At Nutrilite we take the responsibility of making supplements that people take into their bodies seriously. “Natural” does not mean safe and pure any more than “synthetic” does. In either case – whether we’re working with synthetic or natural vitamins or natural plant concentrates – we have multiple quality controls in place that are unrivaled in the industry. You discount any information about our quality control available from Nutrilite or Amway, but Nutrilite products did pass the quality checks run by the independent, who also found that Nutrilite came out on top in a brand survey of consumer satisfaction.
As you know, Double X contains both natural and synthetic nutrients. For example, vitamin C is listed on the label as coming from both ascorbic acid (synthetic) and acerola (natural). It contains all-natural vitamin E (from d-Alpha Tocopheryl succinate), which is 1.4 times as bioavailable as synthetic vitamin E. It also contains synthetic folic acid, which is 1.6 times as bioavailable as natural folate. For vitamins and minerals the choice was made on a case-by-case basis to go for natural or synthetic form. To my mind, there are two key points of differentiation for Double X compared to other high-end multisupplements: (1) the quality control, from seed to finished product, and (2) the variety of plant concentrates. On top of this, it also provides high, optimal-health-supporting levels of vitamins and minerals.
With the latest generation of Double X (in the US and many other countries around the world), the formula contains plant concentrates from apple, rosemary, sage, and blueberry among many others – all of these were based from multi-stage bioassay screening designed (to simplify a little) around a single concept: variety. Variety is an intuitively healthy concept – we get that a healthy diet doesn’t mean high chronic consumption of any single healthy food. The very mental image of a healthy plateful features many different textures and colors: variety, because different plants provide different things are bodies need to stay healthy.
Focusing here on the plant ingredients, Double X has three kinds of variety built-in: (1) variety of ingredients; it doesn’t contain, say, high amounts of just two or three plant ingredients; it contains more than twenty. (2) Next, it also provides variety of action, meaning action in the body (as verified by bioassays, and also based on different phytonutrient class or family). Double X is not, for example, super-powered with “just” antioxidant power with an eye-popping ORAC number; rather, along with high antioxidant potency and a high ORAC number, it also provides different kinds of benefits; it provides bioassay-supported action against five types of free radicals; we’ve also included ingredients that are help the body detoxify itself or help protect and repair DNA, functions which have nothing or little to do with just antioxidant potential. (3) Finally, in Double X there’s also variety within individual plant ingredients. Take the acerola, for example: we could have aimed to produce a super-pure, super-concentrated acerola extract that provides only the single molecule ascorbic acid; instead, we like a rather “impure” natural acerola extract, that contains high amounts of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), along with a preponderance of other naturally-occuring flavonoids found in the fresh fruit. This is the “whole food” philosophy at the level of individual ingredients. Though in some cases plant concentrates provide highly-concentrated specific nutrients, none of these are so concentrated that they are completely divorced from the whole food they were extraced from; lutein, for example, extracted from marigold flowers, also contains other mixed carotenoids like zeaxanthin found in the whole fresh plant. Thus with those three kinds of variety is Double X meant to complement a healthy diet that is, yes, based on natural, unprocessed foods as far as possible. Double X is an examplar of the “Best of Nature. Best of Science” philosophy.

It’s interesting that you start out your review of Double X by stating that you felt more energetic, or rather less energetic after you stopped. It’s something we hear a lot and something I feel too. “Optimal health” is a bit of an abstract concept and some supplements are taken on faith and hope – for example, I take supplements for my eyes (lutein and others) because of the scientific evidence – no hard proof, but associations between high consumptions of lutein in the diet and risk of macular degeneration. I don’t feel my eyesight getting stronger, though. With a supplement like Double X, it can be a little different – it doesn’t have to be only on faith. Many people do feel noticeably better when they take it, or, like you, only notice a difference when they stop.

    • PL Chang says:

Thank you for the great information about Double X.

When extracting natural vitamins or creating synthetic vitamins, both of them have their pros and cons when it comes to quality issues. The problem with natural vitamins is that when extracted from it natural sources, many of them become unstable and some are missing key synergistic components that are needed by the body to utilize them effectively. Synthetic vitamins are used to replace these natural vitamins because many of them are more stable and cheaper to make. Unfortunately, most synthetic vitamins do not carry the full chemical structures because they are isolated; therefore, they are missing a lot of their synergistic components. For example, Cyanocobalamin which is the synthetic version of vitamin B12 is only one part of the vitamin B12 complex.

The vitamin B12 found in nature is not the same as the synthetic vitamin B12 for the reason that it contains all the synergistic components. The main reason why vitamins found in nature have these components along with other nutrients is because they all work together to keep everything in balance. It is similar to how all the systems in the human body work together to maintain balance. Because synthetic vitamins are missing important synergistic components, they are harder to absorbed and utilized by the body. Nutrilite Double X has high levels of vitamins and minerals, but if they are hard to absorb or can’t be effectively utilize by the body, then people are just wasting their money.

For more information about natural and synthetic vitamins, visit the link below. The link will take you to an article written by Dr. Robert J Thiel, Ph.D., N.D. His article does a great job of explaining the differences between natural and synthetic vitamins.

To understand how well supplements work we need to study nature. Nature works in cooperation more than competition. If it did not work in cooperation, we would not be alive because the systems of our body would compete and destroy one another. This is what happens when people get autoimmune disorders or cancer.

Nature is based on a system that evolves around balance. When something disrupts that balance, it threatens the survival of all the systems that are part of nature. Our body is a part of nature; therefore, it needs to be kept in balance for survival. One of the problems with multivitamins is that they are created by throwing a bunch of vitamins and minerals together without study how they all affect each other as a whole. Also, scientists still do not have an accurate way of measuring the recommended daily values of vitamins and minerals.

To truly find out the specific amount of vitamins and minerals each person needs, scientists will need to use biofeedback devices that can measure subtle energy in the body. These devices, if built and used correctly, can accurately detect disease, and mineral and vitamin deficiency. When information collected from these devices are put into charts, doctors will be able to tell exactly what the problem is. By using the device to stimulate the body with a signature compound, the body will react to it as if it is being given that substance. This works similar to the placebo effects but better.

These subtle energy devices will be able to tell doctors exactly how much vitamins or minerals a person needs. Unfortunately, these devices are being attacked by the drug industry because it is a threat to its survival. The drug industry does not want people to know about these devices because this industry isn’t interested in curing disease. Why? Because there is less profit to be made.

Scientists know very little about how nature and the Universe truly work and yet here there are thinking that they can create vitamins, minerals, and genetically modified food that are healthy to eat. There is nothing wrong trying to copy nature as long as scientists do not exploit it. Scientists also need to do long-term studies before approving their creations to be sold to the public. Many of their creations are done and tested in test tube and animals. The results they get from these studies may be very different in a human.

You mentioned that the best recommendation is to “walk down to your local grocery store or farmer’s market and get yourself some fresh fruits and vegetables; better yet, supplement your diet with fruits and vegetables you grow yourself.” I agree with you but would like to add some more advices to improve your recommendation. The problem with the plant foods in grocery store is that many of them are depleted of nutrients, even the organic ones. This is because land used for agriculture today is depleted of nutrients. To get sufficient levels of nutrients from today’s plant foods, people need to buy the organic ones that are grown on nutrient-rich soil or soil laced with rock dust. Even better, they should grow their own plant foods.

When comparing Nutrilite Double X to other conventional supplements, it is very competitive. However, it is a supplement that I would not recommend to people who are already eating healthy foods. Why? Because like most supplements, Double X is not created with the concept of balance. The levels of ingredients in Double X are not efficient, because the scientists working for Nutrilite do not have the technology to accurately measure how much vitamins and minerals are needed to keep the body in balance. Furthermore, many of its vitamins are hard to absorb. To make matters worse, Double X contains soy protein isolate, corn starch and modified food starch. These ingredients tell me that there is a very high probability, over 90 percent chance that Double X contains genetically engineered ingredients.

If Nutrilite wants to create a supplement that is superior than its competitors, it will need to change the way it does business. Like most companies, Nutrilite is a company that is focusing too much on money and greed. As long as it is stuck in this greedy business model, money will always be its top priority. The greed for profit and control are the obstacles that are preventing companies from creating life changing products. This greed is one of the main reasons why energy healing devices and frequency healing machines are being attacked by the pharmaceutical industry.

In you review of Double X you stated several ingredients were not natural but synthetic. You listed a company, with link, that was supposedly much better & GMO free. However, on looking at daily supplements for men over 40 I find over a dozen ingredients that originate from something called “Saccharomyces cerevisiae” which is a fungus, a sugar fungus no less… Me thinks this is not all that you’ve cracked it out to be & are only out to bash/bad mouth Amway’s Double X Thanks, but no thanks, I’ll stick to Amway & Double X…
