Banana is well known for giving exercisers and athletes great energy boost because it contains simple carbs and complex carbs - glucose, sucrose and fructose. According to researchers, eating just two bananas can provide enough energy for an intense 90 minute workout.

One medium banana can contain as much as 30 grams of carbs and 20% DV of vitamin B6 (% are based on a 2,000 calorie diet). Your body’s main source of energy comes from carbs, vitamin B6 increases your energy by assisting the body to absorb and metabolize amino acids. Quick tips: for a thinner smoothie use non-frozen fruits, for a thicker smoothie use more frozen fruits.

Banana Hazelnut Smoothie Recipe

  • 3 large frozen bananas or 4 medium frozen bananas (peeled and sliced before freezing it)
  • 1/4 of a cup of hazelnuts
  • 6 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1/4 of a cup of milk
  • 5-10 ice cubes
  • 1/4 of a cup of any dark rum liquor (hazelnut liqueur preferred)
  • First mix the brown sugar and hazelnuts in your blender until it is fine, then throw the rest of the ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth. Serve right away for best taste!

Berry Avocado Banana Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 or 2 frozen peeled bananas (cut bananas into smaller pieces before freezing it for easier blending)
  • Half of a ripe avocado
  • 4-6 fresh strawberries (add more if needed)
  • Pinch of allspice
  • Pinch of cardamom
  • Non-fat soy or other nut milk (add depending on your taste)
  • Throw all the ingredients in a blender and let it rip until it looks smooth. For a more chewable drink try blending it slowly. Enjoy!

  • 1 or 2 frozen peeled bananas (more bananas = more energy)
