Food rich in nutrients such as vitamin C, iron, B-vitamins, magnesium, selenium, antioxidants and fiber can increase your mental performance; therefore, help you cope better with stress, fatigue and sickness.
Below are some great tips to boost your brain power:
- Eat a breakfast meal that is full of rich complex carbs will help refuel and wake your brain from its sleeping stage. Eating a healthy breakfast prevents low blood sugar, and sharpens your memory and mental clarity.
- Eating snacks between meals is great for boosting your vitality, this helps keep your blood sugar constant. Try to avoid snacks that are high in sugar.
- Eat regularly, try to eat 4-5 smaller meals instead of 2-3 big meals. Research shows that eating smaller meals help the brain work more efficiently.
- Make sure you nourish your body with enough supply of essential fatty acids by including a good variety of vegetables in your diet. Supplying your body with essential fatty acids will keep your brain in high gear.
- Pump up those iron intakes by eating more whole grain food, pulses, fruits and green vegetables. Don’t forget to drink juice rich in vitamin C to maximize iron absorption. Iron helps carry oxygen from the lung to all the organs in your body, resulting in more energy. Iron can be toxic at high doses. According to the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), the recommended iron intake is 8 milligrams per day for males and 18 milligrams per day for females.
- Last but not least, take a nap after your midday meal to recharge your brain. Brain efficiency naturally drops in the early afternoon.
