Balancing Your Energy Input and Output

Having energy is critical for everything we do because our bodies can’t survive without it. In order to fine tune that energy to burn for maximum efficiency, we need to pay attention to what we eat and do during the day.

Here are some tips for balancing your energy

  • Eat more complex carbohydrates - this helps keep your blood sugar constant resulting in better energy flow through out the day. Pasta, pulses, whole grain bread/cereals, and fresh vegetables are all good sources of complex carbs.
  • Stay calm and relax - having too much stress and anxiety uses up more energy, even when your body is at rest.
  • Avoid Stimulants - caffeine and nicotine disrupts your energy balance because it increases energy burn but doesn’t do much to replace the lost energy.
  • Control your body temperature - keep your body warm when it is cold and cool when it is hot outside. Sweating and shivering uses more energy which disrupts the body’s energy balance, in extreme cases, death may occur.
  • Stay healthy - being sick upsets the energy balance in your body causing it to use more energy to fight viruses and bacterias.
  • Eat according to your needs - Eat more if you know you are going to have a busy day or going to the gym to workout. If you are too busy to eat, bring along healthy snacks to boost your energy.
  • Energy level changes when we age - we need to adjust our calorie intake depending on our gender and age so we don’t jeopardize our health.
