Most pastas are high in complex carbohydrates which take longer to digest, giving you endurance energy. This is why pastas are popular among runners, bikers and professional athletes. When eating pastas, eat the ones that are made with durum wheat or whole wheat because they take longer to digest. These types of pastas contained complex carbohydrates which are healthier for you.
Carbohydrates are important for energy because about 50 percent of the body’s source of energy is from carbohydrates, depending on how active you are the percentage may vary. You can survive a long time without carbohydrates because your body can convert fat and protein into glucose. The bad thing about this is that your body has a harder time converting fat and protein into glucose.
Pasta is affordable and usually low in fat. Pasta in the United States is usually enriched with B-vitamins, iron and folic acid. The pasta that isn’t enriched with vitamins is the one made with whole grain wheat. Pasta made with whole grain wheat has more fiber and protein, about 7 grams of fiber and 8 grams of protein per serving. In general, there are 2 main types of pasta, macaroni and noodles. The differences between the two is that noodles are made from durum (a more refined version of semolina) and macaroni is made from unprocessed semolina and water.
