Qigong is a ancient Chinese exercise that is close to 5,000 years old. The word Qigong is actually two words, “qi” stands for energy and vitality, and “gong” means practice. Put it together and it means energy practice or repeated energy.
The Basic Posture of Qigong - 10 Easy Steps
- Stand up with your feet spread shoulders’ width apart. Your feet should angle slightly outward so you feel comfortable and balanced.
- Relax your knees by bending them slightly and relax your buttocks.
- Your lower body should feel like it is grounded to the floor.
- Relax your shoulders by lowering your shoulders slightly.
- Spread your arms slightly and let them hang down loosely.
- Stretch your neck slightly upward like it is being held from above and look straight in front of you.
- Your whole body should feel relax and well balance. If you feel any strain, concentrate on that area by relaxing the muscles.
- Take a couple of deep breaths and relax your mind. Imagine you are a tree or some kind of plant, visualize roots growing from your feet into the rich soil of the earth. Imagine you are drawing the Earth’s positive energy through the roots and up to your feet.
- Imagine breathing in pure positive energy every-time you breathe to stimulate the flow of qi in your body. As you exhale, negative energy and toxins are being expel from your body through the roots of your feet.
- Relax your mind and feel at peace, remember to breathe and relax your whole body to help release stress.
