Are you thinking about shopping for some hot dogs to grill out this summer? Before you get too excited, find out the pros and cons about hot dog before you start spending your cash. If you are a big fan of hot dogs, you may want to think twice before reading further because some of the secrets about hot dogs are not very pleasant.
Hot dogs (also known as frankfurters, wieners and tube steaks) are usually made with beef, pork, chicken or a combination, and are always pre-cooked. Less expensive hot dogs are usually mixed with other ingredients. One of the most popular mixes are chicken and pork. Hot dogs are prepared by using grinders to grind and mix the ingredients, the mixture is then forced through tubes into casings. Using grinders to grind meat is fast and convenient but is also hard to clean.
There have been many stories about how insects and rats fall into some of the hot dog grinders. Whether these stories are true or not I can’t say, but it would not surprise me. The FDA actually has a food defect level policy which allows a certain amount of natural or unnatural residues in food. When you really think about it, this is understandable because there is no way food can be grown, harvested and processed totally free of external residues, such as chemicals, insects, hairs, etc.
Hot dog is cheap but is bad for you to eat because it is high in processed fat, sodium, and low in vitamins and minerals. Hot dog is poor at increasing your energy because it lacks energy vitamins, and complex carbohydrates which are the essential nutrients for boosting your energy level. Hot dog also contains sodium nitrite which is a chemical salt that is used as a preservative for food. The debate over the health benefits of sodium nitrite is uncleared. Some researchers argued that sodium nitrites are carcinogens because the chemical reacts with stomach acid to produce nitrosamines, which have been known to cause cancer in animals. Other researchers believed that sodium nitrite is useful for reducing the amount of tissue damage during events of oxygen starvation, such as a heart attack.
Hot dog is the types of food you should avoid as much as possible because it is a processed food which means that the food is drained of most of its nutrients. A good way to know if a food is right for you is to listen to your body. When you get a stomachache from eating something, like a greasy burger, your body is trying to tell you to stay away from that kind of food. Listen to your body and it will respond back with pleasure instead of pain.
Hopefully, I didn’t gross you out too much, happy grilling!
