Food is what makes us who we are, it shapes our bodies and helps us grow into adults. Unfortunately, not all food are good for you and can damage your energy and health. These types of food is known as junk food which are foods that are high in calories, low in nutrients and are usually bad for you.
Most junk food is processed food which means that the food has little or no nutrients. Many junk food is also added with chemicals to prolong their shelf life. In the fast food industry, certain chemicals or growth hormones are added to vegetables and livestock to reduce the time it take to grow them. Junk foods such as candy, chips, popcorn, marshmallows, candy bar, french fries, sodas, etc., are usually added with chemical preservatives and synthetic vitamins. They are also low in essential vitamins and minerals which are needed to for energy, cell growth and development. These are some of the many reasons why junk food is bad for you.
Many people choose junk food over organic food because it saves them money but they don’t realize how much money they may lose in the long run. Consuming small amounts of junk food is not a big hazard to your health but when you consume it on a regular basis, junk food can lead to major health problems later on in life. Junk food is usually high in calories, the excessive calories usually end up being stored as fat. Eating junk food for long periods of time can lead to obesity, vitamin deficiencies, heart disease and other health problems. According to nchc.org, the national health care spending in the United States reached $2.3 trillion in 2007, or about $7,600 per person and was projected to pass $3 trillion in 2011.
If we can see how junk food affects our internal body structures, we would change our eating habits in a heartbeat. Since we can’t see how junk food affects our bodies, we need to listen to our bodies and watch for signs so we don’t destroy our health. Your physical and mental health rely heavily on the types of food you eat, avoid eating junk food on a regular basis so your health will not deteriorate prematurely.
