Meridians: Energy Pathways

Meridians are the main energy pathways in the human body that carry energy to all the systems in the body. This energy channel system was found by the Chinese over 5,000 years ago and is practiced daily in Chinese medicine. The Chinese believed that there are 12 main meridians (also known as the twelve regular channels) plus 8 extraordinary meridians in the human body. In total, the 20 meridians are divided into Yin and Yang groups which are the Yin meridians of the arm and leg, and the Yang meridians of the arm and leg. According to Chinese physicians, meridians are important for mental, physical and energy health. Meridians work similar to the veins in your body but instead of transporting blood, oxygen and nutrients, they transport energies. When your meridians are blocked or disrupted, illnesses can occur. Meridians that are blocked for long periods of time may lead to life threaten illnesses.

Because meridians are invisible, many western physicians have a hard time accepting the philosophy. Thanks to better energy testing equipments, western physicians are starting to show interest in these types of alternative medicine. By using advance equipments, scientists can test how each meridian affects energy levels. Meridian is similar to time, you can’t see it but you can see its effects. Even though it is invisible, some energy healers believe that they can see meridians and other invisible energy systems. They use their special senses to determine where there is a disruption of energy in their patient’s body.
