Drinking Water Health Hazard Part 2
Water is important for energy and health because your body has to store about 3 grams of water with every 1 gram of muscle glycogen burned or stored. Glycogen is a polysaccharide of glucose (blood sugar) and is found through out the cells in your body. The glycogen stored in your muscle cells act as an immediate source of energy for your cells. The lack of water in your muscle means that less glycogen can be stored. As a result, you will deplete your glycogen reserves faster, causing you to become fatigue faster.
Water is the element of life and is needed for life to evolve. Below are some FAQs and tips on how to replenish you body with water to increase your energy and health.
How much water should I drink?
- On average, you should drink about 6 to 8 cups of water per day. This may vary depending on your gender, weight, the food you eat and how active you are.
Is tap water safe to drink?
- Tap water is safe enough to drink because it will not kill you instantly but over time your health will deteriorate. The water treatment systems in the United States and other countries are nearly a century old. Most of them need to be upgraded in order to filter out new contaminants, such as pesticides, arsenic, lead, mercury, fluoride, industrial chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Hospitals and long-term care facilities are not helping either. By flushing millions of pounds of unused pharmaceuticals down the drain, they are contaminating our drinking water even more and putting our health at risk. Until something is done to improve the water treatment systems, it would be a good idea to replace your faucet with an advance water purifier system. These systems can cost hundreds of dollars but they will save you money in the long run from buying water at the store. Water purifier systems can also save you hundreds of thousands of dollars from future chronic health problems relating to contaminated water.
Is bottled water safer than tap water?
- Most bottled water that you buy at the store is not that much better than the water you drink from your faucet. The problem with the bottled water industry is that government standards are not very strict and these companies are usually self-regulated. Another major problem is that laws and regulations are not specific enough. Bottled water companies can easily manipulate their labels just like how the food industries can manipulate their labels. In many cases, chlorine is added to bottled water as a sanitizer to prevent organisms from breeding in the water. Chlorine is not dangerous in small amounts but it still affects your health and may cause health problems in the future. The chemical called phthalates found in plastic containers can leak into bottled water over time. High doses of phthalates have been known to disrupt hormones in rodents causing damages to the liver, testes and birth defects. According to the firm Research and Markets, 50 percent of bottled water sold in the market is processed tap water.
What is the best source of water?
- The best source of water is from in-home water purification system, the water that you control by the use of reverse-osmosis or filtration, such as carbon and microporous filtration. Drinking water right from your water purification system reduces the chance of toxins and bacterias from contaminating the water, just make sure the cup you are using is clean. There are other ways to purified water but most of them are not well suited for home usage and are more expensive.
What other ways is water purified?
- Distillation: Removes contaminants from water by boiling the water and then condensing the steam in a clean container. Distillation works similar to how nature recycle water and is very pure. Some of the drawbacks about this process is that the distillation apparatus needs to be clean frequently because of the yellowish mineral scale that sticks to the apparatus and it is more expensive.
- Deionization: Purifies water by removing ions from minerals, such as sodium, cations, calcium, iron and copper. Deionization is popular for removing salts from water, and is quicker, cheaper and more convenient than distillation. One drawback is that deionization doesn’t do a good job removing viruses, bacteria and uncharged organic molecules.

However, like everything eles, too much water can be a bad thing. Instead of giving you energy, it can flush your electralights and cause you too feel more lathargic then you were before.
That is true. Drinking too much water can dissolve your electrolytes which can shut down your organs. There was a water drinking contest sponsored by a local radio station (can’t remember where) that ended up killing one of the participants. They estimated that the woman who died drank about 2 gallons of water within an hour.
Drinking about 6 to 8 cups of water through out the day should be fine, just do not drink a gallon (16 cups) of water in 30 minutes.
