Mango – Vitamin A & C Superfruit

MangoesMango is a delicious fruit full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals; the fruit has so many variety of nutrients and phytochemicals that nutritionist decided to put mango into the “superfruit” class. Mangoes are high in vitamin A and C which are important for normal growth and development. Vitamin C is important for energy because it helps your body absorb iron better. The lack of iron will drain you of energy because iron helps carry oxygen to all the cells of your body. Vitamin A is popular for eye health and is great for aiding the immune system to fight off viral infections. Another important nutrient found in mango is fiber which is one of the most important nutrients when it comes to digestive health. Fiber keeps your digestive system healthy and is great for weight management; soluble fiber has the ability to attach itself to fatty substances, this prevents your body from absorbing them.

The skin color of a ripe mango is mostly yellow but can also comes with shades of red and green. The colorful skin is full of antioxidants, such as caroteniods, beta-carotene, alpha-carotene and lutein. Even though the skin is edible and full of health benefits, most people do not like eating the skin. The mantle section of mangoes are smooth, soft, golden in color and has a fibrous texture. The texture is somewhat similar to plums and is sweet when ripe. Unripe mangoes are sour and not as soft but is very popular for making spicy mango pickles in Asian countries.
