Natural Remedies: Disease Fighting Herbs – Part 1
Using herbs to heal your body and strengthen your immune system have many health benefits and can save you a lot of money. Unlike many traditional medicine, herbs heal your body naturally and are usually cheaper. Traditional medicine is highly influenced by money. This is why manufacturers are more interested in creating medicine that can maintain the disease instead of completely curing it. Below is a list of some of the best natural remedies money can buy.
Natural remedies and their use
- Alfalfa – is rich in magnesium, potassium, calcium and vitamin K. It is known for treating urinary tract infections and for aiding the liver. The Arabs believed that the herb gave them energy and increased their resistant to diseases. Because of its high levels of vitamins and phytonutrients, alfalfa is useful for treating stomach, bladder and kidney problems, arthritis, boils, heart disease and menstruation problems.
- Aloe Vera – has the ability to help heal wounds, burns, ulcers and is good for the stomach, intestine and colon. Aloe vera helps cleanse the digestive tract and is good for preventing over acidity. The herb may reduce inflammation, boost T-lymphocyte cells and aid the immune system. Aloe vera is said to aid in blood circulation, kidney, liver and gall bladder functions.
- Astragalus – the root is very well known for aiding the immune system. Traditional uses of astragalus are for colds, influenza, fever, infection, allergies, asthma, chronic fatigue, lack of appetite, heart disease, anemia, wounds, hepatitis, stomach ulcers and kidney disease.
- Lemon Balm – is great for easing nervous problems and reducing stress. People used the herb to help treat anxiety, headache, depression, exhaustion, wounds, blood pressure and digestive problems. Studies have shown that lemon balm is effective against the herpes virus.
- Basil – is known for protecting cell structures, DNA and chromosomes from radiation and free radicals. Because of this unique ability, basil is good for reducing the effects of aging. Basil is popular for fighting off bacterias; studies have shown that basil is effective at restricting growth of staphylococcus aureus, escherichia coli, pseudomonas aeruginosa and listeria monocytogenes. Basil is also well known for it anti-inflammatory property.
- Burdock Root – is well known for strengthening the immune system. Traditional uses are for arthritis, measles, tonsillitis, colds and throat pain. The root is popular for purifying the blood by aiding the body to remove toxins.
- Cat’s Claw – the root bark is known for supporting the immune system and promoting kidney health. In some part of the World, cat’s claw has been used to prevent and abort pregnancy. Popular uses of the plants are arthritis and fighting off infections.
- Cayenne – is well known for its pain-reducing effects and cardiovascular benefits. Cayenne can be very hot when eaten, the hotness is from a component found in the herb called capsaicin. This component has anti-flammatory properties which is why it is popular for arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, psoriasis and pain. Cayenne is also used for reducing blood cholesterol levels, clearing congestion, boosting the immune system and preventing stomach ulcers.
- Chamomile – has been used in Europe to treat digestive problems for many centuries. The herb is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Chamomile is also used to relieve cramps, arthritis, ulcers, anxiety, indigestion, canker sores, insomnia, gingivitis, migraine, menstrual disorders and skin irritations. Chamomile isn’t recommended for pregnant women and people with bleeding disorders.
- Chicory – is believed by the Egyptians to purify the body by helping the liver to eliminate toxins. Chicory is a popular coffee substitute because it stimulates the nervous system similar to coffee. Chicory has been used for acne, heart and gallbladder problems, depressions, anemia, anorexia, splenic problems, headaches, hepatitis, digestion and urinal infections.
- Cinnamon – is popular for heart health because of its anti-clotting ability. Cinnamon is great for weight management and people with type 2 diabetes. Seasoning food with cinnamon can help slow down the digesting process and prevents spikes in blood sugar. Studies have shown that cinnamon can relief arthritis pain, inhibit bacterial growth and food spoilage, and may help fend off E. coli infection.
- Clove – is known for its antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic, aphrodisiac and stimulating properties. Chinese physicians have used the herb to treat diarrhea, hernia, indigestion, ringworm and fungal infections. Clove is also used for respiratory problems, toothache, wounds, scabies, skin irritations, acne, headaches, detoxing, relieving nausea and aiding the immune system.
- Cranberry - is popular for treating urinary infections and prostate problems. Studies have shown it can reduce the growth of E. coli. Traditional uses are digestive problems, scurvy, appetite loss, blood disorders and vitamin C deficiency. Cranberry is very high in antioxidants which is why it is effective at preventing certain cancer growth and reducing the effects of aging.
- Cumin – is well known for aiding digestion and constipation problems. People all over the World uses cumin for insomnia, colds, respiratory disorders, anemia, skin disorders, detoxing, strengthening the immune system and fighting off cancer. Cumin is also popular among mothers during lactation because of its high levels of iron.
- Dill – is a good source of calcium and has the ability to prevent bacterial overgrowth. Studies have shown that certain chemical components found in dill have the ability to neutralize certain types of carcinogens. Dill is used by many to calm the digestive system and help treat urinary tract infection.
