Raspberry: High Fiber Fruit
Image provided by Bien Stephenson
Raspberry is part of the Rubus species. It looks similar to blackberries, except for its dominant bright-red color. This delicious fruit has a very short shelf life but is full of nutrients and antioxidants. One of the things that separates raspberries from other fruits is the levels of fiber. One cup of raspberries has more then 30 percent of the percent daily value of dietary fiber. Fiber is essential for health because it promotes bowel movement and has the ability to attach itself to fatty substances, making it harder for the body to absorb them. Raspberries are also very high in manganese and vitamin C. Many nutritionists agree that raspberry can help prevent strokes and heart attack because of its decent source of potassium. Another reason why raspberry is good for heart health is because it contains pectin, a soluble fiber that helps control cholesterol levels. In addition to pectin, raspberries contain ellagic acid and other bioflavonoids which are believed to prevent certain cancer.
Health benefits of raspberry:

- High in manganese, vitamin C and fiber
