Red Yeast Rice: Cholesterol Fighter

Red yeast rice (also known as xuezhikang extract) is a by-product of yeast (monascus purpureus). According to a study from the American Journal of Cardiology, this red grain may help fight off heart disease. The study shown that people who took red yeast rice after a heart attack had a 45 percent reduced risk of another one. One of the main natural ingredients responsible for fighting off heart disease is an enzyme called lovastatin. This enzyme is believed by scientists to inhibit HMG-CoA reductase which is an enzyme that triggers cholesterol production.
