Staying healthy during the winter season is very important because you don’t want to end up getting the cold, or worst, the flu. Keeping your immune system and body strong is some of the best ways to reduce the chance of catching the nasty cold and flu virus. Below are 10 tips on how to strengthen your health so you can enjoy the winter with a smile instead of a frown.

  1. Herbal teas: are great for boosting your energy and immune system because they are full of nutrients and antioxidants. Herbal teas also have many health benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer, soothing headaches and stomachaches, and aiding digestion.
  2. Junk foods: should be avoided as much as possible because they are full of empty calories and will drain your body of energy. This will weaken your immune system and increases your risk of catching a cold or flu.
  3. Stress: has been linked to weaken the immune system by making immune cells age faster. Stress also causes your body to work harder resulting in loss of essential energy. Meditation, yoga and tai chi are good exercises for reducing stress and help bring balance back to your body.
  4. Fruits and vegetables: are very important when it comes to strengthening your immune system, especially during the winter season. Fruits and vegetables are full of essentially nutrients and antioxidants to help strengthen your immune system.
  5. Sleep: you should get about 8 hours of sleep per day to help rejuvenate your immune system. The lack of sleep is one of the main reasons why many people get sick because it drains the body of energy and weakens the immune system.
  6. Sunlight: is important for your body because it helps stimulate your body’s energy and your skin needs sunlight to produce vitamin D. Vitamin D plays an important role for keeping your immune system strong. Some experts believe that the reason why people get the flu during the winter season is because of the lack of sunlight. The shorter days reduces the amount of sunlight which prevents the skin from producing sufficient levels of vitamin D.
  7. Detox: is a great way to cleanse your body of harmful toxins. Detox programs usually involve healthy diet, sauna baths, skin cleansing, juice fasting, etc. Junk foods and other unhealthy habits are usually not permitted during detoxing to prevent more toxin buildup. Be careful when choosing a detox program because not all of them are good.
  8. Dietary supplement: is great for supplying your body with essential vitamins and minerals for keeping your immune system strong. Keep in mind that not all dietary supplements are effective because many of them uses synthetic vitamins and minerals.
  9. High quality protein and complex carbohydrate: high quality proteins are high in protein and essential nutrients. Protein is important for healing the body and as a backup source of energy. Complex carbohydrate is the body’s main source of fuel. Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose which are then used as fuel for cells. The more energy cells have, the more effective they are at fighting diseases.
  10. Good hygiene practice: having good hygiene keeps you body and your surroundings clean. This reduces the chance of catching the cold or flu virus and other viral diseases.
