There are many pomegranate juices out on the market. Many of them claimed they are natural and full of antioxidants, but many of their claims are usually misleading. POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice is one of the rare ones that can actually back up most of its claims.

The claims:

  • 100% authentic pomegranate juice
  • All natural, no added sugars, preservatives, colors or cheap filler juices
  • Is gluten free

By reading the nutrition facts, I didn’t find any major ingredients that may jeopardize their claims. Everything looked normal except for the 32 grams of sugar, most natural fruit juice has sugar. According to the nutrition facts, the 32 grams of sugar is natural sugar and not processed sugar. The only thing that may bother some health conscious people is the origin of the juice which is made from concentrate. There are little differences between concentrate juice and non-concentrate juice. The main difference is the water levels in the juice. Juice made from concentrate are rehydrated juice that was once drained of water. This shouldn’t change the properties of the juice too much and the lost of nutrients should be minimal. According to POM Wonderful, it grows its own fruits, squeeze them and even manufacture its own bottles.

If you haven’t eaten pomegranate before, the flavor of this juice may surprise you. The red juice had a sweet tartness flavor, followed by a light-bitter aftertaste. The flavor was very similar to the fruit pomegranate but without the seeds. The thing that bothered me about POM Wonderful Pomegranate Juice was the light-bitter aftertaste. The bitter aftertaste had a stinging-like feature, luckily it wasn’t very strong. If you don’t like the bitter flavor, drink it cold or you may not enjoy this drink. As for side effects, I didn’t experience any — I did felt more awake though — this is probably a good thing. The cost for a bottle of POM is a little expensive but it does come with more health benefits than most conventional fruit drinks. Fortunately, POM was nice enough to sent me free samples.

Pomegranate is a fruit that you should get familiar with if you want to improve your health and stay young longer. One of nature’s greatest gifts for keeping us healthy are antioxidants, pomegranate is full of them. In fact, it has more antioxidants than green tea. To see how effective the pomegranate juice is in POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate, doctors and scientists — backed by POM Wonderful — did a clinical test to see its effect on the body. At the end of the experiment, they concluded that its juice promoted cardiovascular and prostate health, and improved erectile function in men. Hi PL,

There’s a new company that makes a juice by mixing all of the superfruits (Pomegranate, Acai, Goji, Mangosteen, Noni). The site is http://www.ultraselects.com. Do you think that the claim for it to be the world’s strongest antioxidant drink is true?

    thanks,
    Ryan

Also would like to follow-up what would you think about their other products (MRP, Superfood supplement)

    Hi Ryan,

I checked the three products that Ultra Selects have on their front page: Mind, Body and Soul. They looked healthy and natural. By looking at the ingredient lists, I didn’t find any signs of unnatural ingredients. Although, the term “natural” can be misleading.

If Ultra Selects used organic ingredients, its product would of been even better. Its antioxidant drink (Mind) does have a lot of ingredients that are loaded with antioxidants.

The thing that concerns me about these health supplement drinks is that if they sit on the shelf for a few weeks, many of their water-soluble vitamins (B-vitamins) will dissolve. Also, some of the non-soluble vitamins will loose their potency. When nutrients are extracted from their natural source, such as fruit, they are not as stable. Because of this, these type of claims are somewhat misleading.

Overall, its products looked better than average. I have not try them so I don’t know how good they are.

Pomegranates taste amazing! The pomegranate has to be one of my favorite fruit! If it’s fresh and in a good shape, it’s incredibly sweet with the tiniest bit of citric flavor (but only the good arils of course). Absolutely amazing!

However, POM pomegranate juice was incredibly disappointing. It’s like they took some of the white, bitter outside and mixed it with bad and good arils, not to mention the seed. I’m convinced the best way to make good pomegranate juice is by selecting good handfuls of arils and squeezing them into a bowl. So I guess the only way to do it is homemade…

Anyway, I did manage to get used to the bitter flavor… gradually… sort of… but it was nothing like a fresh, tasty pomegranate. I really hope a persons’s first taste of pomegranate isn’t this stuff, because then they probably won’t be too anxious on trying a fresh pomegranate. And that would be a shame.
