Natural Remedies for Sore Throat
Sore throat can be a painful experience if not treated right. There are many causes for sore throat, the main ones are the cold and flu virus, Streptococcus and Arcanobacterium haemolyticum. Streptococcus is the bacteria that causes strep throat and Arcanobacterium is the bacteria that causes sore throat associated with minor red rashes. There are many natural remedies that can reduce the effects of sore throat. Three of best ones are lemon, honey and cayenne pepper.
Lemon is great for reducing the levels of mucus and contracting inflamed tissues. Honey does an excellent job soothing and disinfecting your throat. Cayenne pepper is full of phytochemicals and is well known for boosting circulation. Because of these features, cayenne is used by many herbalists to prevent heart attacks. Other ways you can reduce the effects of sore throat is by using a humidifier and by not smoking.
How to use lemon, honey and cayenne pepper to treat sore throat:
- Fill a regular spoon half way with honey.
- Squeeze a slice of lemon on top of the honey until the spoon is full of lemon juice.
- Sprinkle a pinch of cayenne pepper on top of the lemon juice and honey, add more if you don’t mind its hot flavor.
- Put the spoon in your mouth and sip on it slowly, repeat 3 times or more if needed.
Combining these three natural remedies is very effective for reducing the effects of sore throat. For kids, you may want to exclude the cayenne pepper because it may be too hot for them to handle.
