If you were at the 2008 Olympics in China, you may of noticed that most Chinese are not walking around with big bellies like Americans. Why is that? Do they know secrets about weight loss that we do not? Chinese are not special in any ways when it comes to weight loss. The main reason why they are thin is because of their diet, plain and simple!
Americans used to be thin like the Chinese until we switched our diet from plant-based to animal-based food. Instead of getting most of our calories from fruit and vegetable, we are getting most of our calories from meat and fat. Even worst, we invented fast food which did not help our weight problem, but turn it into a pandemic. We are the fattest nation on the planet because of our fast food and junk food diets.
Some of the secret to weight loss deal with your basal metabolic rate (BMR), diet, how active you are and your total calorie intake per day. BMR is a measurement of how fast a person’s body can burn calories. Your muscle also plays an important role for helping you lose weight. If you want to burn more calories, increase your muscle mass because it takes more energy to move bigger muscle. Another great way to increase your BMR is through exercise. Exercising makes your body work harder, which burns more calories and prevents atrophy. Starving yourself and not exercising decreases your BMR. This is not good for preventing weight gain.
Exercise does a great job helping you lose weight but it is only half of the formula. The other half is your diet. If you exercise everyday but eat a lot of junk food, you will have a hard time losing weight. Junk food is usually high in simple carbohydrate, which causes spikes in glucose (blood sugar) levels. This quick change of glucose level will cause your pancreas to produce more insulin. Insulin has many roles in the body, one of them is to store unused glucose as fat for later use. This is why when you eat junk food, you gain more weight.
Junk food and fast food are usually high in calories because they contained a lot of fat. Fat has 9 calories per gram while protein and carbohydrates have 4 calories per gram each. It is important to know that it is the calories that will make you fat, not the food itself. If you are serious about losing weight, get most of your calories from organic plant-based foods, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Plant foods are very low in calories and are very high in nutrients. Many of the nutrients in plants are essential for metabolism. If plant food does not fill you up, try eating legumes with it or concentrate on the plant food that is high in fiber.
There is no quick and easy way to lose weight. If someone tells you that they can help you lose 50 lbs in a few weeks by using some kind of weight loss pill, be alarmed. Currently, there are no magic pills to help you lose weight, because the metabolism process is very complex. Losing weight can be hard but if you switch your diet to more than 50 percent raw plant-based food and exercise regularly, losing weight will become a lot easier. Even if you do not exercise, you can lose weight by just switching to plant-based food.
If you can go 100 percent raw plant-based food, you will lose weight even faster. Be advised, you should only lose a few pounds of body weight per a week. Losing more than a few pounds per week may harm your body. Also, if you are not use to eating plant-based food everyday, add a few fruits and vegetables to your diet until you are comfortable enough to switch to mostly plant-based food.
