The Digestive System & Health Problems

Choosing whole food to eat is critical for your health but without a healthy digestive system, most of these power foods will not get absorbed. Health problems related to the digestive system is very common in the United States and in many other country. These digestive problems are so common in the United States that more than half of its population suffers from them. The main ones are: heart burn, ulcers, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, gas, nausea and constipation. Some of these digestive problems are minor but they are early signs of major chronic diseases.

There are many things that can contribute to digestive problems, the main ones are: junk food, greasy food, enzyme-depleted food, nutrient-depleted food, too much food or too little food, and not chewing food well enough. Many people don’t realized how important it is to chewed their food. Chewing food releases enzymes that helps the body to digest food by decomposing maltose and dextrin. Chewing food also breaks the food into smaller pieces, therefore, makes it easier for the stomach to digest it. You should chewed solid food at least 20 times before swallowing it. Thoughts are also very important for aiding the digestive system because this is where it all begins. When you think about your favorite food, your body gets excited and secretes more saliva and other digesting enzymes. When you think about your worst food, your body reacts the opposite and you look away with disgust.

There are many ways you can improve the efficiency of your digestive system, one of the ways is by eating foods that are easier to digest. Foods that are soft or in liquid form (unprocessed) are easier for your body to absorb than solid food, such as meat. Organic food such as fruits and vegetables, are also easier for your body to absorb because they are not added with chemicals, preservatives, and contained no or very little fat. Compared to plant-based food, most meat-based food takes longer for your stomach to digest because it contained more fats and chemicals. Your stomach breaks down carbohydrate first, then protein and finally fats. This is some of the reasons why you feel full longer when eating meat-based food. Eating foods rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants are important for health but without a healthy digestive system, these foods are worthless.

When your stomach is finish digesting food, it passes the food to your small intestine where it is absorbed. The small intestine contains more digestive enzymes that break the food even further. It does this by splitting disaccharides into monosaccharides, converting nucleic acid into phosphoric acid and nucleosides, and breaking down lipids and amino acids. The gallbladder also helps the small intestine to digest food by releasing biles into the small intestine. The bile is then used to neutralize acids and assist the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

Any food that has not been used is pass through to the large intestine along with insoluble fiber. The large intestine contains friendly bacteria to decompose any remaining matter. These bacterias can also cause gas and bloating depending on the diet. A high-carbohydrate diet increases the fermentative flora in the large intestine which can cause gas and bloating. This is why when you eat more meat-based food, you increases your chance of getting these types of digestive problem. Fiber plays an important role for finishing the digestive process. Fiber encourages bowel movement which prevents constipation. This makes it easier for the body to eliminate waste, therefore, protects the large intestine from diseases.

The best way to keep your digestive system healthy is by eating more whole food than processed food. Your body is the best healing system, with the right nutrients, it can heal itself from any digestive problem. Traditional medicine made by pharmaceutical companies are not effective because they are designed to treat the symptom of the disease and not the root cause of the disease. When you have a digestive problem, it is caused by many different sources. Traditional medicine is not designed to treat all the sources of the problem. This is where traditional medicine failed and whole food prevailed.
