Digestive Problems – Top Ten Sources

Digestive distress can be caused by many different sources. If left undone, it may caused chronic problems which can break down your digestive system. The digestive system is very important for health and energy because it breaks down food into nutrients. This process allows your body to absorb nutrients to heal and power itself. Below are the top ten sources that can cause digestive problems.

  1. Bad Diet: Eating processed fatty food, junk food and low fiber food can cause digestive problems. These foods lower the hydrochloric acid in the stomach and don’t contain enough enzymes to aid digestion. Most of these foods are high in carbohydrates which can cause an increase of the fermentative flora, resulting in gas and bloating problems. Low fiber food slows bulk movements and can cause constipation.
  2. Insufficient and Dirty Water: You should drink about 6 to 8 glasses of clean water per day. Water is one of the most important elements in your body, about 70 percent of your body is made of water. Water is needed for many things, one of them is for keeping your stool soft which reduces your chance of getting hemorrhoids. On the negative side, dirty water contaminated with parasites, bacteria, natural chemicals, and industrial chemicals can cause digestive problems and diseases.
  3. Parasites and Microorganisms: Bacteria, viruses, parasites and Candida albicans (a form of yeast) are common causes of digestive problems. A common bacteria that is known to cause stomach ulcers is Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). If left untreated, it can cause chronic stomach problems and may lead to cancer. Rotaviruses and noroviruses are two of a group of viruses that cause digestive problems, such as vomiting and diarrhea. Parasites are known for stealing the host’s nutrients and can also cause diarrhea. Candida albicans is a yeast normally found in the mouth, rectum and vagina. Certain changes in the body can allow it to grow larger than normal. These changes may be caused by other microorganisms and antibiotics. Women tend to have problems with candida albicans because it can cause an infection inside their vagina, also known as a yeast infection.
  4. Stomach Acid: When people have heartburn, most of them think that it is caused by the elevated levels of stomach acid. This is actually not 100 percent true, most of the time it starts with low stomach acid. Eating huge meals or unhealthy meals, low levels of digestive enzymes and low levels of stomach acids are the major causes of heartburn. These situations prevent the stomach from digesting food properly. When food sits in the stomach too long, it ferments, causing gas and bloating. Too much gas in the stomach causes the cardiac sphincter (also known as cardiac valve) to open. This allows stomach acids to escape into the esophagus and cause heartburn. Heartburn medicine such as Rolaids and Tums can temporary reduce the effects of heartburn, but actually makes it worst because they promote improper digestion.
  5. Food Allergy: Foods that cause the most allergies are wheat, eggs and dairy products. Allergies can also develop because of pollens, dusts, molds and chemicals. Food allergy can cause leaky gut syndrome (LGS), fibromyalgia, fatigue and even death.
  6. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) also known as Spastic Colon: A functional disorder in the bowel that cause disturbance of the large intestine. Common symptoms are abdominal pain, cramping, diarrhea, constipation, bloating and gas. The causes of IBS is still not clear but many independent researchers suggested that unhealthy diet is the main causes of this syndrome. IBS often get confused with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is a disease instead of a disorder.
  7. Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS): A serious condition in the gut which involves its lining being damaged or inflamed. The damages can be caused by poor diet, toxins, parasites, antibiotics or microorganisms. LGS can allow bacteria, viruses, parasites and undigested food into the bloodstream. This can provoke a serious allergic response, autoimmune and other disorders.
  8. Intestinal Friendly Bacteria: The friendly bacteria located in your gut can be affected by the excessive use of pharmaceutical drugs, antibiotics and poor diet. These bad habits can also weakened the immune system. This allows disease-causing bacteria, viruses and parasites to grow and cause intestinal problems.
  9. Lack of Activity: By not being active, we become lazy and the systems of our bodies become sluggish. Sitting, laying and standing for many hours can impaired the digestive system. By not exercising or being active, we also slow down blood circulation. The slower the circulation, the less toxins our bodies can eliminate.
  10. Emotions and Stress: Emotions and stress can affect the digestive system by slowing or speeding up the process. When you experienced depression, your gastric rate can slow down. On the other hand, experiencing anxiety can speed it up. Negative emotions and stress can constrict intestinal capillaries and interrupt the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.

Kevin, I agree with you on some level about leading a heathy lifestyle but sometimes that is not enough from for some of us. I realize I have caused some of my digestive issues from a lack of fiber, water and other supplements needed to maintain regular bowel movements. I feel that by you saying that is everyone would just eat healthier and they will never have “any” problems , I think is a little too cut and dry and that is not how it is for most Americans. Over 60% of people have digestive issues and some of them are genetic diseases and I know people who have eaten heathy including myself.
