Adding MSG is a shortcut to cooking food fast and getting a good flavor too. No doubt the food is tasty, but you realize you've put your health at stake only when the illness kicks in.
I once intentionally gave Chinese food a shot at a fast food shack to find out if MSG causes harm. And I landed up at the doctor's clinic the next day. This time I went to a posh food joint thinking it won't be that bad, and I was OK the last two times I ate there. But this time I guess the food had an overdose of MSG. Both, my friend and I ended up with sore throat the next day. Today's the third day and my throat's still itching. I've been gargling with hot water all day long to relieve my throat. Hope this is a good lesson for everyone who reads this blog.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. Yes, it is a good idea to ask the waiter if they use MSG on their food. I rarely eat at Chinese restaurants because I always get stomachaches after eating there. This also include fast food restaurants.

I had a sumptuous dinner at a Chinese food joint and the next day I woke up with a sore throat. Also my limbs were feeling weak all day long. For the next two days I suffered from irregular sleep (quite insomniac). Frustrated with these symptoms I realized that it was all because of MSG present in Chinese food. A platter of salad and fruits would have been better off and more nutritious. Remember to instruct the waiter not to add ajinomoto/MSG to any Chinese dish you order.
