Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine that use highly diluted substances to treat diseases. The substances are usually plants, such as flowers or herbs. The substances are usually made into tinctures but some are also available in tablet forms. To make the tincture, plant substance is diluted with alcohol or distilled water and shaken. The shaken process is called succussion. Homeopaths believe that by shaking the homeopathic remedy, its vital energy is activated. Homeopaths believe homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Homeopathy is based on the law of similars, “like cures like.” In other words, a symptom that is caused by large doses of a substance, can also be cured by the same substance in small doses.
