Lower Cholesterol: Diet and Natural Tips

High cholesterol is becoming a worldwide pandemic because of two things, fatty and unhealthy diet. Thanks to the junk food and fast food industry, people all over the world are becoming more like Americans. As Americans, we are one of the top countries with cholesterol problems. Unless we change our diets and stop relying on fast food, future generations will follow our footsteps and become high cholesterol magnets. Fortunately, high cholesterol can be fix without the use of harmful drugs.

The best way to lower your cholesterol levels is by eating healthy foods, such as raw plant-based foods. These power foods attack the problem at the root instead of at the tip, which is why they are more effective than pharmaceutical drugs. As for meat, consume the meat that is organic or from animals grown on pasture farms. The conventional medical industry recommendation for cholesterol level is 200 mg/dl. I personally believe this recommendation is not accurate. It all depends on the type of food you are eating. If you are eating organic food and meat from animals grown on pasture farms, your cholesterol levels can be higher and it should not affect your health. For example, Eskimos have very high levels of cholesterol, sometime as high as 3,000 mg/dl and they rarely get heart disease. This is because they eat whale and seal blubber that are free of most harmful synthetic chemicals.

Natural tips to lower cholesterol

  • Eat food high in fiber: Fruits, vegetables and whole grains are great sources of fiber. Soluble fiber (pectin) has been known to lower cholesterol because it has the ability to attach itself to fatty substances. Because fiber is not absorb by the body, it can dramatically reduce the body’s ability to absorb cholesterol.
  • Eat more organic food: Organic food contains more nutrients than non-organic food or junk food. Nutrients are needed to help the body remove toxins and heal itself. Organic food usually doesn’t contain harmful synthetic chemicals, such as pesticides and herbicides.
  • Eat more raw plant food: When eating plant food, try not to cook it. Cooking it will destroy about half of its nutrients.
  • Avoid eating meat: Meat contains a lot of cholesterol, even lean meat. This include turkey breast (skinless), chicken breast (skinless), fish or sea food. If you can’t avoid meat completely, limit it as much as possible.
  • Avoid eating processed fatty food: Food that contains a lot of processed fat are usually high in unhealthy cholesterol too.
  • Avoid using processed cooking oil: Processed cooking oil such as vegetable oil, is very concentrated and is usually high in unhealthy cholesterol. Even the cholesterol free cooking oil is bad for you. Vegetable oil contains enough saturated fat which can stimulate your liver to produce more cholesterol than your body needs. Eating food that contains high levels of any oil will raise your cholesterol levels, even if the food doesn’t contain cholesterol.
  • Drink tea: Teas are full of phytochemicals which are known to lower the bad cholesterol (LDL).

By following these natural tips, you may see a change in your cholesterol levels. When this happens, your HDL (good cholesterol) may go up. This is actually normal and is your body’s way of telling you that it is getting rid of the LDL. Over time, the HDL will go down because there is less LDL. Also, don’t worry about not having enough cholesterol because your liver can produce it in abundance.
