Yes, acupuncturists usually check their patients' energy by sensing their pulses on their wrist. Although, they are not limited to just the wrist.

I agree with you about the light exercise. If my mom change her diet and exercise regularly, she wouldn't have high blood pressure.

Thanks for the introduction about acupuncture, Chang. A licensed acupuncturist is usually also a trained Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) physician, so he or she will usually feel your pulse at your wrist first. This is similar to what Western doctor would do by listening to your heart or lungs with a stethoscope. Is the feeling of pulse what you meant by checking your energy?

For your Mum's high blood pressure, in additional to acupuncture, I suggest she takes up some light exercises everyday. It doesn't need to be strenuous and shouldn't be, especially if she's been inactive for many years. A brisk walk at the nearby park at a pace that makes her breathing heavier than normal is a good start. By persisting in daily exercise, it's possible to bring blood pressure down and even ward off the need for long-term medications.

Good luck.

Cheers,
