The root chakra (first chakra), also known as muladhara, is an energy vortex located at the base of the spine that usually spins clockwise. Its energy nourishes the pelvis, sexual organs and everything below them. The root chakra is associated with the color red and represent the element Earth. Although, certain people claimed that they saw other colors, such as gold and purple. The root chakra is what connect us to the subtle energies of the Earth and relates to our survival instincts . This connection to the Earth is what keep us grounded. At the energetic level, the root chakra is where certain sexual attraction begins. The other 6 chakras may also be involve in this process, especially the second chakra. People who are afraid of sex or have been sexually abused may want to find a professional energy healer to look at their root chakra. Energy healers may find a scar in their root chakra which is an indication that they have gone through harsh physical abuse. According to psychics, the root chakra is where our childhood and past-life memories are stored.
People who have a weak or closed root chakra will usually feel fatigue, lack physical power and sexual desire, and may lack the will to move on in life. Others may become violent or seclude themselves from society because they lack a sense of identity. People with a weak or closed root chakra may experience physical symptoms, such as chronic back pain, depression and immunity-related problems. If you feel like you have a weak or closed root chakra, you may want to use the techniques below to clear and balance your root chakra.
How to clear and balance your root chakra:
- Find a comfortable place inside or outside and lie on your back.
- Place one of your hands (palm facing body) a few inches above your root chakra and move it in a slow counter-clockwise circular motion. Move your hand in a circular motion by going to the right first, then down, left and up. Do this exercise for 3-7 minutes or until you feel it is time to stop, then shake your hand to clear off the energy.
- Place your hand above your root chakra, this time move it in a slow clockwise circular motion. Do this exercise for half the time of the exercise in step 2. After you are done, shake your hand to clear off the energy.
- The counter-clockwise motion is designed to remove toxic energies from the root chakra. The clockwise motion is designed to reharmonize the root chakra. This exercise works best with a partner. Your partner should be the one doing the hand movements while you relax.
Other ways to clear and balance your root chakra:
- Crystals: Red, black and brown stones are usually good for stimulating the root chakra. Visit this page for more details.
- Light visualization: Imagine a transparent ruby-red ball floating near the base of your spine. Visualize that this is your root chakra. Mentally look or sense this ball of energy getting brighter and brighter. If what you see is mostly darkness, your root chakra is very dirty. You may want to visualize a powerful, pure white light illuminating from the inside of your root chakra. Visualize this white light cleansing your root chakra until it is pure again.
