How Sex Improves Immunity

Researchers at Wilkes University did a recent study which concluded that sex may help prevent the common cold. The study involved undergraduates students who agreed to participate in the study. The students who had sex once or twice per week had a significant increase of immunoglobulin A (IGA) in their saliva.
However, students who had sex more than three times per week had less IGA, even less than students who rarely had sex at all. People who have low levels of IGA have a greater risk of getting sick and low immunity. IGA is the body first line of defense against microorganisms, which is why it is found in saliva and mucosal linings.
