HoMedics Restore Clean Water System – Review
Having clean and safe water to drink is very important for our well-being. Our body is made up of about 70 percent water, which makes it the most prominent nutrient in our body. Water can be found almost anywhere in the world, even in the desert. Unfortunately, less than 3 percent of the world water supply is drinkable. To make matter worst, about 2 percent of it is frozen in glaciers. Human-made contaminants such as pesticides, herbicides, industrial solvents, pharmaceutical drugs, and toxic waste are not helping either. These contaminants are destroying our limited water supply and affecting our health. Water pollution has become a major problem in the world today, even in industrialized country like the United States. Two things that I’m concerned about the water treatment systems in the United States are the fact that chlorine and fluoride are added to help treat the water. Chlorine and fluoride are considered carcinogens by many independent health experts. In fact, fluoride was used as a rat poison before it was introduced as a cavity fighter. Water systems are also contaminated with heavy metals, arsenic, nitrates, pharmaceutical drugs and pesticide. Because of these reasons, it would be a good idea to invest money on home water purification systems to reduce these toxins so your health will not suffer.
There are many home water purification systems on the market. Most of them used carbon filter to filter out contaminants and microorganisms, but only a few used carbon filter and UV light. HoMedics Restore Clean Water System is one of the few home water systems that combined UV light technology with carbon filter. Carbon filter does a pretty good job removing most microorganisms but it can’t remove all of them. Also, if the filter is overused the chance of microorganisms bypassing the filter increases. This is where the UV light comes in handy. UV light, especially UVC light, can deactivate the DNA of microorganisms. By deactivating their DNA, microorganisms can’t multiply and cause harm to the body. By combining UV light technology with Restore’s activated carbon and ion exchange resin filter, HoMedics claimed that their Restore Clean Water System can remove 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.99% of viruses and 99.95% of microbial cysts.
HoMedics Restore Clean Water System did a good job removing the chemical-like taste in tap water. I tasted regular tap water against the filtered water from Restore and noticed a difference in their flavors. The filtered water tasted better but it is still not the best I ever had. One thing I would like to see in Restore is the use of solid block carbon filter. Block filter eliminates the problem of channeling and is very dense. This makes it harder for microorganisms to growth within the filter. The thing I don’t like about carbon filter is that it does a poor job removing some heavy metals and industrial chemicals, arsenic and nitrates. Overall, Homedics Restore Clean System is better than average but still has a lot of improvements to do. HoMedics Restore Clean Water System cost about $100. Fortunately, HoMedics was nice enough to ship me one for free to try it out. If you want to know more about Restore visit this page.

You are giving people the impression that this filter will take out the fluoride and it will not. You need a special filter for that.
Carbon filter does filter out some fluoride but the quantity is small. For removing fluoride, people should use a special filter called activated alumina (AAL). Distillation and reverse osmosis is also good at removing fluoride. AAL, distillation, reverse osmosis is not practical for home use because they are expensive and inconvenient.
