Genetically modified food, also known as GM food or GMO, is food that has gone through some kind of artificial genetic change using genetic engineering techniques. It is derived from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), such as GM bacteria and GM seed.

Companies that are behind the GM food movements claim there are little or no health risks of eating GM foods. Their claims are very misleading, because most of their studies done on GM foods lack the concrete data to show how they are good for consumer’s health. Also, many of the other studies done on GM foods are sponsored by the companies that are in the GMO business. These company-sponsored studies are usually very biased and designed to trick consumers into thinking that GM foods are good for their health.

GMO is linked to infertility, birth defects, and other serious health problems

On the contrary, studies that were done independently found that animals fed with GM foods developed serious health problems, such as infertility, birth defects, immune disorders, growth and digestive problems, and premature aging. These health problems are the results of scientists lacking the knowledge and technology to effectively create GM food that flows well with the laws of nature. Until scientists learn how to work with nature instead of destroying it, they will never be able to create GM food that is safe to eat.

Even though numerous studies have shown that genetically modified food may be a major health risk to consumers, the FDA is doing little to prevent it from reaching the shelves of grocery stores. The FDA is an agency that you should be careful of because it is highly influenced by lobbyists. Behind closed doors the FDA works similar to a business, and like most businesses, it will usually favor its sponsors rather than consumers.

One of the GM food companies lobbying the FDA and the food industry is Monsanto. One of Monsanto’s main goals is to dominate the world by replacing natural food with GM food. As of this writing, the FDA does not require GM food to be labeled, which is why it is hard to tell if a food is genetically modified. Hopefully this will change in the very near future.

In the United States, there are five types of food that are usually genetically modified. They are corn, soy, canola, cottonseed, and sugar beets. This means that most vegetable oils, and a good portion of fast food and junk food, are either genetically modified or contain some type of genetically modified ingredients.

Tips on how to avoid genetically modified food

  • Most vegetable oils are either genetically modified or contain genetically modified ingredients, unless they are organic or labeled non-GMO. Olive and coconut oil are great alternatives because there are currently no genetically modified olive and coconut oil.
  • Avoid junk foods as much as possible, because many of them contain some type of genetically modified ingredient. When buying junk food make sure you read the ingredients list. For more specific information on how to look for invisible GM ingredients, visit this site.
  • Many of the foods found in fast food restaurants are genetically modified or contain GM ingredients, because they are cooked with GM vegetable oil or contain soybean ingredient.
  • Avoid processed foods that contain soy and corn by-products, including soy protein, soy flour, soy lecithin, corn meal, corn syrup, fructose, dextrose, maltodextrin, citric acid, and lactic acid.
  • Avoid dairy products that are treated with genetically modified rbGH.
  • Avoid corn that is not organically grown, because it is usually genetically modified.

This is a big load of falsified [offensive text removed]. I am a masters student in genetics and I can assure the readers and writers of this that there is absolutely no cause for alarm in eating genetically modified food.

To the writer of this page, do you even KNOW what genetic modification means? I don’t think you quite grasp that it mostly produces food in larger quantities, for lower cost and at a higher rate of productivity. There is no change in the healthiness of the food produced. The end product is more food, less starvation. I guess you would prefer that we avoid artificial selection and make affordable food harder to obtain. That’s just what this world needs.

To the reader, heed my word. Don’t listen to this [offensive text removed].

    • PL Chang says:

Yes, I do know what genetic modification means. It means exactly what it means, modifying the genes of whatever is being modified.

You seem like a smart person but your overactive ego is preventing you from seeing the bigger picture. How do I know you have an overactive ego? Visit the link below and you will find out.

To say that there is absolutely no cause for alarm in eating genetically modified food is ignorance. Even regular food can cause harm to the body.

Here is a little advice for you. Instead of relying only on conventional education for information, start looking into other sources that are non-conventional. This will help you see the bigger picture. If you want to be more than just an average student, you will need to explore beyond what you were taught in school. The video clip above is a good start. But be warned! To step outside the box of conventional thinking can be shocking because you may have to face the fact that many of the things you learned in school are lies or distorted information. Unless you are strong emotionally, mentally and spiritually, please proceed with caution.

It somewhat surprised me that you would be so offended by my article. Here is my speculation. Maybe you are angry because my article is a threat to the business that you are going to school for. If this is the case, then you really need to reevaluate your intentions. Do you truly care about people’s health? Or do you care more about making money? If you truly care about people’s health, then you need to really do some intensive research about the subjects that I wrote in this article. Attacking me is not going to make you a better student or improve the health of people.

Well said Mr. Chang. You are so intelligent and tactful. There seems to be a lot of negative energy and I’m glad you handled it with love. Bless you!

I love how you elevate yourself with the “education” laurel. I’ve found that some of the most stupid people on earth think they are educated. Most learning and truth is found by hard work outside the classroom so give yourself a break and come back to earth.

One great thing that no one has mentioned within this article or video is that without GM food or GM Seed is that over “two billion people would need to die in order for mankind to survive without GM seed” (Norman Borlaug). (Sorry about the Nobel Peace Prize, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Congressional Gold Medal, and Padma Vibhushan recipient source. He has also saved millions of lives due to his GE seeds). Sorry about using Norman Borlaug, but his point of view needs to be seen. The youtube video above states that food is “all our responsibility”, yet the man that gives so much critique to the challenge of feeding billions of people hasn’t given an alternative to feeding them. He does not give an alternative to GE seed or GMF. Why hasn’t the author of this article written about this problem? Jeffrey Smith asks “Please respond, challenge”. I guess I’m just responding to his argument. How are we going to feed the two billion people? Please respond with a logical response. If it is that respond to this question, please respond to this question. Give a logical, scientific answer to feeding these people without killing two billion people.

Just a quick add on question though and I’m not trying to be sarcastic at all, but what education does Jeffrey Smith have and what scientific research has he done himself. The only thing that I’ve been able to find on him is that he is consultant on the subject matter. This article seems to use him as the main source of the article which has sparked my interest in his expertise in this subject matter.

    • PL Chang says:

To say that without GM food or GM seed 2 billion people would need to die is very misleading. GM seed is more expensive to produce, and farmers can’t save them for later use because of patent issues. This means that farmers would have to buy these very expensive seeds every year. The hidden agenda behind this GM seed movement is to take total control of the farming industry which Monsanto is trying to do. Monsanto’s main goal is to replace organic seed with GM seed by destroying its competitions. When it comes to food, people should have a choice.

I have hung around business people long enough to know how the world of business truly works. Below is an example of how the world of business works behind the scene and why GM food may be cheaper.

Like conventional food, GM food is subsidized by the government. In other words, the taxpayers are supporting GM food without them even knowing it. This is one of the main reasons why conventional and GM food are cheaper than organic food. Why is the government supporting conventional and GM food more than organic food? It is because the conventional and GM food industry have been lobbying the government for decades. If the government supports organic food as much as GM food, organic food would be just as cheap. Plus, there would be less health and environmental problems.

The use of GM seed is a threat to the health of the environment. As more and more environment is destroyed, there will be less places to plant food. This will cause an increase in food price and shortages; therefore, billions of people would die. To fix this problem the government will have to steal taxpayer’s money.

At the top levels, the world of business operates very different from lower levels. This type of business is highly addicted to greed. As long as it is addicted to greed, it will always choose money over the health of the people.

If scientists want to create GM food that is safe to eat, they will need to learn how to understand and use the language of light, sound, pulsation and energy vibration. This language is the language of the living codes of matter. Until scientists learn how to effectively use this language and use it in harmony with nature, they will never be able to create GM food that is safe to eat.

Here is what I see coming if GM food and GM seed replace natural food. Until scientists learn how
to work with nature instead of exploit it, GM food and GM seed will cause many health problems. One of the worsts is infertility. If GM food affects fertility as much as claimed by independent researchers, the human race could face extinction within a few generations. This is how serious this subject is, and as human beings, we need to make sure GM food companies do intensive and long-term studies before distributing their products.

To answer your question about preventing world hunger we will need to turn our attention to the essence of Creation which is energy. Everything needs energy to do work. Without energy we will not be able to grow food or transport it. The primary determination of food price is energy. With the right energy technologies we can reduce the cost of food by more than 90 percent and grow an abundance of food. We can even use these technologies to cheaply purify ocean water. Drinking water is going to be an even bigger problem than food shortages.

The energy technologies I’m talking about are free energy devices. These technologies have been around since the early 1900s, but because of certain greedy and powerful business people, they tricked the government to support oil instead of free energy technology. This is a mistake that the government and its people will regret. If you don’t believe in free energy technology, you should do research on a famous scientist named Nikola Tesla, or visit the link below.

Magnetic energy is also a great alternative. Although it is not as efficient as some of the other free energy technologies, it is way more efficient than gasoline. If free energy technologies were implemented 100 years ago, we wouldn’t be facing world hunger, pollution and the possibility of extinction.

  3. Richard says:

Wow to the strong negative reactions to your post – all one needs is to understand what genetic engineering is and you would want to stay away from it.

Genetic Engineering is a test tube science and is prematurely applied in food production. A gene studied in a test tube can only tell what this gene does and how it behaves in that particular test tube. It cannot tell us what its role and behaviour are in the organism it came from or what it might do if we place it into a completely different species. Genes for the colour red placed into petunia flowers not only changed the colour of the petals but also decreased fertility and altered the growth of the roots and leaves. Salmon genetically engineered with a growth hormone gene not only grew too big too fast but also turned green. These are unpredictable side effects, scientifically termed pleiotropic effects. 😈

We also know very little about what a gene (or for that matter any of its DNA sequence) might trigger or interrupt depending on where it got inserted into the new host (plant or animal). These are open questions around positional effects. And what about gene silencing and gene instability? How do we know that a genetically engineered food plant will not produce new toxins and allergenic substances or increase the level of dormant toxins and allergens? How about the nutritional value? And what are the effects on the environment and on wild life? All these questions are important questions yet they remain unanswered. Until we have an answer ❓ to all of these, genetic engineering should be kept to the test tubes. Biotechnology married to corporations tends to ignore the precautionary principle but it also igpores some basic scientific principles.

Thanks to Dr. Ricarda Steinbrecher for his reseach on this

    • PL Chang says:

You got some good points there Richard. Genetic engineering is something that scientist is very poor at doing. It would probably take decades or even centuries before scientist can create GM food that is safe to eat. Until then, it would be wise to stay away from GM food.
