Candida albicans is a yeast like organism present in all human beings. In this article you’ll discover how this little single celled inhabitant of your gut can negatively affect your health for years without you even knowing it.
We are all walking around with about 100 trillion of living bacteria present in our body. To put this into perspective, the amount of these little bacterial bugs is nearly ten times greater than the total amount of your cells. They are essential for us humans to function properly but in the same time it’s absolutely crucial to keep them under control and live with them in harmony.
However, under certain circumstances things can get out of control and we may start feeling sick and tired all the time. This is because one very specific type of yeast called Candida albicans overpopulates and disrupts the balance between all those kinds of living bacteria present in your body.
You get symptoms like excessive fatigue, problems with digestion (bloating, diarrhea or constipation), frequent headaches, anxiety, recurring vaginal infections and rashes. These are all symptoms of what many health care experts familiar with holistic medicine call Candida infection.
Causes and treatment of Candida infection
Nowadays many of us consume large amounts of food that is over processed and high in refined sugar. However, the problem with this kind of diet is that it may result in fewer beneficial bacteria (a.k.a. probiotics) in the intestinal tract. Furthermore, the average North American these days leads quite a stressful life (it is common knowledge that stress is a contributory factor to many diseases, including Candida overgrowth) and takes antibiotics on a frequent basis.
The frequent use of broad spectrum antibiotics is believed to be one of the leading causes of Candida albicans proliferation because while they wipe out the bad bacteria, they also tend to kill the good ones that keep the Candida albicans in check, too. If that wasn’t enough, a relatively recent research has also shown a close link between Candida overgrowth and birth control pills.
In order to get cured of Candida infection, one needs to restore the balance in the intestinal tract. This can be achieved by a holistic and natural treatment consisting of probiotics and antifungals. For a limited amount of time it is also advised to follow a Candida diet plan to improve your overall health. It’s also always good to talk to your doctor to reduce your chances of having something go wrong.
All in all, embarking on the learning adventure of a new healthy lifestyle is your first important step towards better health.
