Natural Cough Remedy: Treat Cough Instantly
Image provided by David Blaikie
Winter is the season when we are at the highest risk of catching a cold, causing us to cough constantly throughout the day. Most coughs caused by viral infection will usually disappear within a week or two, but every now and then we get a cough that can last longer. Two of the most popular natural remedies for treating coughs are honey and lemon juice. Honey has been used to treat wounds and coughs for thousands of years because of its strong antiviral and antibacterial properties. Lemon on the other hand is full of vitamin C which is great for boosting the immune system. It is a popular remedy for treating the flu and common cold.
As described at ehow.com.
Clover honey has a three-pronged attack that makes it effective against the resistance bacteria develop. Its acidic pH, low water content (which essentially dehydrates bacteria) and hydrogen peroxide made by its enzymes fight bacteria on different levels and make it immune to super bug organisms that are resistant to standard antibiotics.
Look for honey that is made with 100 percent pure honey and not pasteurized. Honey that is pasteurized do not contain as much nutrients as non-pasteurized honey and is not as pure. The one I recommend for treating coughs is buckwheat honey.
The cough remedy below is designed to treat dry coughs or sore throat. If you are coughing out mucus, you may want to only use this remedy once a day. Coughing out mucus is your body’s way of ridding itself of infections. I used this cough remedy to treat my coughs before bed and it worked like a charm. Within a few minutes, my coughs disappeared and I was able to sleep. You may need to use this remedy a few times a day to keep the cough away. If the honey is cold, you may want to warm it up. Do not heat the honey on high temperatures because high heat can destroy its nutrients. The natural cough remedy below is not recommended for infant under the age of one.
