Berkey Travel Water PurificationWater is one of the most important elements for life to exist. It is so important that without water we cannot survive for more than a week. Even though water is so important for our health and survival, many of us are taking it for granted because we are allowing companies to pollute our water with dangerous toxins. Some of these dangerous toxins are fluoride (sodium fluoride), hydrofluoric acid, heavy metals, chlorine and pharmaceutical drugs.

Below is an excerpt from about one of these dangerous chemicals found in a great portion of the United States’ drinking water.

The fluoride added to 90% of drinking water is hydrofluoric acid which is a compound of fluorine that is a chemical byproduct of aluminum, steel, cement, phosphate, and nuclear weapons manufacturing.

Hydrofluoric acid is used to refine high octane gasoline, to make fluorocarbons and chlorofluorocarbons for freezers and air conditioners, and to manufacture computer screens, fluorescent light bulbs, semiconductors, plastics, herbicides, and toothpaste.

If you think fluoride is good for you, you may want to watch the video below before you drink another glass of unfiltered water.

The fluoride used for treating drinking water is not the natural calcium fluoride found in nature; rather, it is the synthetic industrial version, which is known as sodium fluoride. The natural version of fluoride (calcium fluoride) is not that harmful to us. It is usually found in the soil and spring water in very small quantities. The synthetic version of fluoride (sodium fluoride) is a hazardous waste containing very toxic chemicals, including but not limited to arsenic, lead, aluminum, cadmium, fluorosilicic acid and even radioactive materials..

If you live in the United States, the probability of your drinking water being contaminated with some of the chemicals I mentioned above is near 100 percent. Because these harmful toxins are commonly found in drinking water, it would be wise to purchase and install a water filtration system in your home. Even if you do not live in the United States, the probability of your drinking water being contaminated with harmful toxins is just as high. It is important to know that not all water purification systems are created equally. Many of the common water filtration systems on the market do a poor job of removing certain heavy metals, chlorine and fluoride.

The Berkey water purification system is one of the better portable water purification systems I have come across. Below is an excerpt from about this water purification system.

Black Berkey Purification Elements are more powerful than any other gravity filter element currently available. In fact, we tested the Black Berkey purification elements with more than 10,000 times the concentration of pathogens per liter than is required by standard test protocol. This concentration of pathogens is so great that the post filtered water should be expected to contain 100,000 or more pathogens per liter (99.99% reduction – the requirement for pathogenic removal). Incredibly the purification elements removed 100%. Absolutely no pathogens were cultured from the effluent or were able to be detected, even under an electron microscope, setting a new standard in water purification.

Black Berkey purification elements are so powerful, they can remove food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Virtually no other filtration element can duplicate this performance.

No need for expensive disposable filters. Black Berkey purification elements are re-cleanable. When the flow rate decreases simply brush the Black Berkey purification elements with a ScotchBrite pad under running water, reinstall and your system is again ready to purify water.

The Berkey water filtration system is available in eight sizes. I bought the travel version to test it out for the price of about $230. I also purchase the PF-2 arsenic and fluoride water filters for an extra $55. The PF-2 filters has activated alumina technology, which is designed specifically to remove fluoride. Berkey’s filters are designed to last for six months to a year. After using this water filtration system for about a month, I was amazed at how well it filtered out the nasty synthetic flavor in tap water.

The filtered water did not taste as great as natural spring water, but it did taste better than tap water. Before I purchased this water filtration system, I was using the Crystal Quest countertop double fluoride filter system to filter tap water. This water purification system made by Crystal Quest did a poor job of filtering the synthetic and chlorine flavor in tap water. One great feature that separates Berkey water purification system from its competitors is that it is portable. This makes it great for camping or emergency situations.

Installing the travel version of the Berkey water filtration system was easy and straight forward. Below is a video that does a good job of showing how to install it.

If you are living on your own, the Big Berkey should be good enough for you. If you have a family, I recommend purchasing the Royal or Imperial version. The Berkey water filtration system is available to purchase at . If you are concerned about fluoride, you may want to purchase the PF-2 filters along with the Berkey system, because the black filters that come with the regular Berkey water purification system cannot effectively remove fluoride and arsenic.

Update (January 20, 2013)

After using this water filtration system for nearly two years, I’m still satisfy with its performance. One thing that I dislike about this system is the function of its additional activated alumina filter. This extra filter is optional and designed to remove fluoride. While using this filter, it sometime leaves white flaky substance in the water.

Personally, I like this Berkey water purification system. Compared with other reverse osmosis systems, its performance is pretty good.
