Brain Foods: Energy Tips for the Brain

Eating food filled with the best source of energy will benefit your brain as well as your body. Food rich in nutrients such as vitamin C, iron, B-vitamins, magnesium, selenium, antioxidants and fiber can increase your mental performance; therefore, help you cope better with stress, fatigue and sickness.

Below are some great tips to boost your brain power:

  • Eat a breakfast meal that is full of rich complex carbs will help refuel and wake your brain from its sleeping stage. Eating a healthy breakfast prevents low blood sugar, and sharpens your memory and mental clarity.
  • Eating snacks between meals is great for boosting your vitality, this helps keep your blood sugar constant. Try to avoid snacks that are high in sugar.
  • Eat regularly, try to eat 4-5 smaller meals instead of 2-3 big meals. Research shows that eating smaller meals help the brain work more efficiently.
  • Make sure you nourish your body with enough supply of essential fatty acids by including a good variety of vegetables in your diet. Supplying your body with essential fatty acids will keep your brain in high gear.
  • Pump up those iron intakes by eating more whole grain food, pulses, fruits and green vegetables. Don’t forget to drink juice rich in vitamin C to maximize iron absorption. Iron helps carry oxygen from the lung to all the organs in your body, resulting in more energy. Iron can be toxic at high doses. According to the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), the recommended iron intake is 8 milligrams per day for males and 18 milligrams per day for females.
  • Last but not least, take a nap after your midday meal to recharge your brain. Brain efficiency naturally drops in the early afternoon.

Energy Food: Best Essential Food Components

In order to sustain a high level of energy through out your life you need to nourish your body with energy foods. These foods are usually foods that contained high levels of essential nutrients, good fats and complex carbohydrates.  Organic plant-based foods usually contained high levels of these essential food components which is why they are known as energy food. These energy foods are great for boosting your energy and protecting your health from free radicals. Free radicals are natural molecules found in your body. Having too much free radicals in your body can damage your cells and DNA leading to numerous diseases and low metabolism. Below is a list of some of the most important energy food components

Complex Carbohydrates

  • Foods containing complex carbs are usually rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Complex carbs take longer for the body to digest, this gives you longer energy because of the gradual rise and fall in blood sugar levels.

B-Vitamins

  • B-vitamins are essential for increasing your body’s energy because it helps metabolized carbohydrates, and is required for proper digestion and the production of energy.

Antioxidants

  • When your body metabolizes food, free radicals are released which can damage your cells and DNA. To reduce their negative effects, you need to consume food rich in antioxidants, such as fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts.

Proteins

  • Known as the building blocks of tissue, protein is important for repairing muscles, bones, cartilage and skin. Protein is needed for cells to grow and function properly. When your body is low on carbohydrates and fat, protein can be used as a substitute for energy.

Essential Fatty Acids

  • Plays an important role for keeping your brain and cells healthy. It is also important for healing wounds and blood clotting. The lack of essential fatty acids can disrupt the balance of energy in your body by preventing your brain and cells from performing at their peak.

XS Black Cherry Cola Blast – Review

XS Energy DrinkXS Black Cherry Cola Blast – Retail Price: $1.99 per can (8.4 fl. oz.)
Available Size: 8.4 fl. oz.
Taste: 6/10
Price: 7/10
Energy Level: 6.5/10

XS Black Cherry Cola Blast is an energy drink designed to give you energy without the calories, sugar and carbs. This drink is the 8th energy drink from XS. It comes in a black 8.4 fl. oz. can with no carbs, no sugar and is Kosher certified. XS Black Cherry Cola Blast taste just like its name. Its flavor is similar to coke but has a cherry flavor, and is lightly carbonated. If you like cherry coke, you should enjoy this energy drink because of its similar flavor. Although, it does have a light dry-sweet aftertaste and its artificial sweetener gives its energy juice a strange sweet flavor. This could be good or bad depending on your taste.

Black Cherry Cola Blast’s energy mostly comes from B-vitamins which are great for increasing energy, boosting metabolism, enhancing cell growth and division, enhancing the nervous system and immune system, and keeping the skin and muscles healthy. Unfortunately, many of its B-vitamins are synthetic so they do not have all the benefits of natural B-vitamins. XS Black Cherry Cola Blast is one of my least favorite energy drink from XS. The two things I didn’t like about this energy drink is its lack of energy and strange flavor. I don’t recommend drinking this energy drink on a regular basis because it contains artificial sweetener and synthetic vitamins.
