The Seven Chakras: Solar Plexus Chakra

Image provided by Ged Carroll
Solar PlexusThe solar plexus chakra (third chakra), also known as manipura, is an energy vortex located near the stomach. This chakra is yellow in color and represent the element fire. Like the root chakra (first chakra), its energy usually spins clockwise. The energy stored in this chakra is the energy of identity, awareness, power, knowledge and curiosity. The solar plexus chakra controls more organs than the other 6 chakras. Some of the organs that it is responsible for are: the liver, stomach, gall bladder, spleen, diaphragm, pancreas and kidneys. It is also responsible for controlling metabolism and the nervous system. The solar plexus chakra plays an important role for eliminating toxins because it powers the liver and kidneys. The solar plexus chakra is very sensitive to the environment. How you were raised and the things you experienced in life is stored in this chakra. This area is where the conflicts between your true-self and false-self (ego) happens. Unlike the sacral plexus chakra (second chakra), the solar plexus chakra is logical rather than artistic. It is suspicious, sophisticated, and is not child-like but parent-like.

If your solar plexus chakra becomes the dominant chakra, you may experience low self-esteem, hatred and fear. Your ego may be the one controlling most of your decisions. This will cause a false identity of who you are, which will also bring a lot of pain and suffering into your life. If your solar plexus chakra is weak or blocked, you may experience physical symptoms, such as: diabetes, ulcers, hypoglycemia, constipation, fatigue and digestive disorders.

How to clear and balance your solar plexus chakra:

  1. Find a comfortable place inside or outside and lie on your back.
  2. Place one of your hands (palm facing body) a few inches above your solar plexus chakra and slowly move it in a counter-clockwise circular motion. Move it in a circular motion by going to the right first, then down, left and up. Do this hand exercise for about 3-7 minutes or until you feel it is time to stop, then shake your hand to clear off the negative energy.
  3. When you are done clearing your hand of negative energy, place it back to the same starting position. This time move it in a slow clockwise circular motion. Do this exercise for half the time of the exercise in step 2. When you are done shake your hand to clear off the negative energy.
  4. The counter-clockwise hand motion is designed to remove negative energies. The clockwise hand motion is designed to reharmonize the energy of the solar plexus chakra. For best results find a partner to help you do this exercise. Your partner should be the one doing the hand movements while you relax.

Other ways to clear and balance your solar plexus chakra:

  • Crystals: Yellow crystals are usually good for stimulating the solar plexus chakra. Some popular stones are yellow topaz, citrine, golden calcite, pyrite and amber. Visit this page for more details about using crystals.
  • Light visualization: Imagine a transparent yellow ball floating behind your navel. Visualize that this is your solar plexus chakra. Mentally look or sense this yellow ball of energy shining like a little sun. If all you see is dark colors, your solar plexus chakra may be very dirty. You may want to visualize a powerful, pure white light illuminating from the inside of your solar plexus chakra. Visualize this white light cleansing your chakra until it is illuminating beautiful yellow colors. This may take a few weeks or months so be patient.

Sacral PlexusAbove the root chakra (first chakra) is the sacral plexus chakra (second chakra), also known as svadhisthana. Like the root chakra, the sacral plexus chakra’s energy usually spins clockwise. This chakra is orange in color and represent the element water. It is located near the abdomen, just beneath the navel. Like the root chakra, the sacral plexus chakra deals with sexual activities, but also reproductive activities, emotions and creativity. Its energy governs the reproductive organs and is responsible for nourishing the fetus. The sacral plexus chakra is where the soul embraces the body. It is the chakra that represents the innocent self of a person before he/she is influence by society. This chakra is connected to your intuition because it is governed by faith and trust. Artists, musicians and healers usually have strong sacral plexus chakras because this chakra is strongly connected to creativity.

People with weak or blocked sacral plexus chakras may appear lifeless because of their lack of emotions. They may lack sexual desire and may have a hard time getting pregnant. Physical symptoms such as, kidney problem, sexual dysfunction, constipation, and lower back pain may be the results of having a weak or blocked sacral plexus chakra.

  3. After clearing your hand of negative energy, place it back to the same starting position which is above your sacral plexus chakra. This time move it in a slow clockwise circular motion. Do this exercise for half the time of the exercise in step 2. When you are done shake your hand to clear off the negative energy.
  4. The counter-clockwise hand motion is designed to remove negative energies from the chakra. The clockwise hand motion is designed to reharmonize the chakra. For best results find a partner to help you do this exercise. Your partner should be the one doing the hand movements while you relax.

Other ways to clear and balance your sacral plexus chakra:

  • Crystals: Orange stones are usually good for stimulating the sacral plexus chakra. Some popular stones are yellow jasper, carnelian, fire opal and orange agate. Visit this page for details on how to use crystals.
  • Light visualization: Imagine a transparent orange ball floating just below your navel. Visualize that this is your sacral plexus chakra. Mentally look or sense this orange ball of energy becoming more intense. If what you see is darkness instead of colors, your sacral plexus chakra is very dirty. You may want to visualize a powerful, pure white light illuminating from the inside of your sacral plexus chakra. Visualize this white light cleansing your chakra until it is pure again.

Thymus Gland: Why it is Important for Immunity

The thymus gland is a flat, pinkish-grey organ that sits behind the breast bone, right beneath the collar bone. The thymus gland is important for immunity because it produces T-cells. These T-cells aid the immune system by helping cells destroy virus, bacteria, and abnormal cells such as cancer. Studies have shown that people with weak thymus glands have a higher chance of getting infection and cancer.

There are many things that can reduce the function of the thymus gland. Some of them are toxins, unhealthy food and aging. Researchers found out that after puberty, the thymus gland gradually shrinks. Once it shrinks enough, people’s immunity starts to decline. The reason why the thymus gland shrinks is because as people age, less of the hormone thymulin is produce. This hormone is needed to stimulate the production of T-cells. Eating junk food is bad for the thymus gland because junk food contains little nutrient. Junk food also contains synthetic chemicals which can harm the thymus gland.

Ways to stimulate the thymus gland:

  • Studies have shown that vitamin A, C and E can improve the activity level of the thymus gland. They also found out that the mineral selenium and zinc can enlarge it, therefore can increase its ability to produce more T-cells. To increase your intake of these vitamins and minerals, concentrate on fruits and vegetables (organic) that are high in them. You can also take dietary supplements, but be careful because not all supplements contain high quality vitamins and minerals.
  • Find the section at the middle of your chest where your two collarbone join together. Move straight down about 2 inches and tap this area a dozen time with your fingers. Tapping this area will stimulate the energy surrounding the thymus gland which may improve thymus functions.
