Image provided by Bandita
Weigh ScalesBeing overweight can make life hard because it can drain you of energy and destroy your health. For some of us, losing weight is easy because we have a very high metabolism. Most of us are not that lucky so losing weight can be a challenge. Losing weight can be hard but it is not impossible when we are given the right knowledge. Unfortunately, many of us who want to lose weight are given little information on how to effectively lose weight. Many health experts who claim they can easily help us lose weight do not understand this process enough. Therefore, their advises can be misleading which can lead to failure. There are many reasons why losing weight can be hard but if you are dedicated, persistence and given effective knowledge, losing weight will become easier.

Ten tips to help you lose weight

  1. Insulin: A hormone that is produced by the pancreas. During eating, insulin is secreted into the bloodstream as a response for the increase of blood sugar (glucose) in the body. Insulin helps keep blood sugar level at a safe level. Insulin plays an important role for weight gain because it helps store excess blood sugar as fat. This usually happens when there is a spike in blood sugar level. When it comes to weight gain, having too much insulin is bad because it prevents the body from burning excess fats. Foods that are high in glycemic index are great for causing spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels. Please visit this page for a list of foods that are high in glycemic index.
  2. Glucagon: A hormone that is produced by the pancreas. It is found mostly in the liver and muscle tissues. According to researchers, the maximum level that the human body can stored glucose is about 400 grams or about 1,600 calories. Once your body reached this maximum level, it can’t stored anymore glucose. Hence, the excess glucose will be converted into fat by the hormone insulin. High carbohydrate diets are very effective at filling up your glucose reserve. Therefore, eating a lot of carbohydrates can lead to weight gain, especially the simple carbohydrates (junk food).
  3. Vitamins and minerals: These nutrients are essential for losing weight because they are needed for proper metabolism. One of the most important nutrients for boosting metabolism is magnesium. Magnesium is important for the synthesis of protein, transmit of nerve signals and utilization of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Because of the popularity of fast food and junk food, and bad agriculture practices, magnesium deficiency is becoming a common problem. The lack of magnesium can contribute to lower metabolism because it plays an important role for converting food into energy. If you are planning to purchase vitamins and minerals to help boost your metabolism, make sure you buy the natural high quality versions. One of the best places to purchase natural high quality vitamins and minerals is Live Superfoods (aff. link). Look for the ones that are extracted from natural, organic or whole food sources.
  4. Thyroid: The main gland that controls metabolism is the thyroid gland. If you have thyroid problems, your body will have a harder time utilizing energy. To keep your thyroid healthy, avoid eating junk food and fast food. Environmental toxins such as aluminum and mercury, may also decrease thyroid functions. You may want to go on a detox program to help eliminate environmental toxins.
  5. Be active: Being physically active is important for losing weight because it keeps your body running efficiently. When you become less active, all the systems of your body slows down and you burn less calories. This increases your chance of having excess glucose in your body. Because your body doesn’t like to waste energy, the excess glucose will be stored as fat for later use.
  6. Fruits and vegetables: Are full of enzymes, antioxidants and nutrients to keep your body running at its peak. Many of the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables are essential for metabolism. Organic fruits and vegetables are healthier than conventional fruits and vegetables because they are not sprayed with harmful synthetic chemicals. Try eating the organic version if possible and try not to cook it because it destroys many of its nutrients.
  7. Metabolism: Is the process when your body convert food and nutrient into energy. This process is very complex because it involves thousands of chemical reactions to produce energy. How many calories your body can burn depends on your basal metabolic rate (BMR), insulin and enzyme levels, muscle mass and how much you exercise. The organ that mainly controls your metabolism is your thyroid gland. The type of food you eat, your activity level and life style play important roles for the health of your metabolism.
  8. Carbohydrates: Is your body’s main source of energy because it is easily converted into blood sugar (glucose). Avoid eating simple carbohydrates, such as junk food and fast food because they cause spikes in your blood sugar levels. Instead, eat complex carbohydrates such as: wheat bread, fruits, vegetables, barley, oatmeal, brown rice and wholegrain cereals.
  9. Hormones: Plays an important role for regulating many chemical reactions in the body, including the utilization of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. As you age, the various hormonal levels in your body become imbalanced which can make it harder for you to lose weight. To help bring your hormones closer to a balance state, you need to increase your basal metabolic rate (BMR). If your BMR is low, you may have thyroid problems.
  10. Energy balance: The source of all health problems start at the energetic level before they are manifested into physical symptoms. If your overall energy is balanced, your body can utilize energy more effectively. This can help you lose weight.

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM): Natural Pain Reliever

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a form of sulfur that is found naturally in the body. MSM contains a natural occurring sulfur called sulfonyl. Unlike the bad sulfur such as sulfites, sulfonyl is important for muscle, joint and bone health. Studies have shown that MSM may improve joint flexibility and reduce swelling, scar tissue and inflammation. One of the more well known studies, published in The Journal of Anti-aging Medicine, found that patients who received 250 milligram of MSM twice a day, had better than 80 percent reduction in pain than those who received placebo. According to Earl L. Mindell, Ph. D., MSM softens the cell walls and allows any free radicals to be moved out of the system. Because of its pain relieving properties, MSM is commonly used for treating joint and muscle pain in animals.

MSM has a long scientific name which can trick people to think that it is a drug, but it is actually a nutrient. MSM is available as a dietary supplement. It is popular for treating arthritis, muscle and joint pain, allergies, headaches and skin problems. MSM should not be confused with its cousin dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). DMSO is also a natural occurring sulfur compound but is more reactive than MSM.

How to Feel and Sense Energy

Image provided by Steve Jurvetson
Energy BallHave you ever walked into a room full of people and felt cold, hot, uncomfortable, scared, nervous, sick or happy before acknowledging anyone? If you had felt this, you are probably sensitive to the energies in your environment. Your body has an energy field that surrounds you which is called an aura. Scientists know that the aura exists because it can be measured with advanced technology. Your aura is like an egg shaped magnetic antenna that is sensitive to people’s energy and the energies of the enviornment. If you are sensitive to energy, you should be able to tell when someone is sad, happy or angry, without even looking at his/her body language.

Being sensitive to energy is not that rare. We can usually sense other people’s energy but most of us do not know how to differentiate our energy from other people’s energy. This is because we have been conditioned to believe that the energy we sense is only our energy. There is a small percentage of people that are very sensitive to energy. Energy sensitive people can easily pick up other people’s energy and emotions. If they are in an area that has a lot of negative energy, it can make them feel very uncomfortable.

Sensing energy is not that hard. Some of us are natural at it and some of us are not. If you are not the energy sensitive type, you can learn how to sense energy by doing the exercise below. This exercise can also help improve your natural energy sensing ability.

How to sense energy

  1. Take a few deep breaths, relax and clear your mind, and try to sense the energies around you. You may feel a cold, hot or tingly sensation around your body, especially around your palms and fingertips.
  2. Move both of your hands in front of your chest with palms facing each other. Your palms should be about a foot away from each other and about a foot away from your chest.
  3. Imagine that your are holding a balloon, then try to squish the balloon in a fluid-like motion. As you do this, pay attention to the changes in the atmosphere. Your hands may feel cold, hot or tingly. You may also feel a magnetic force pushing and pulling your hands.
  4. Once you are comfortable with this exercise, try sensing energy in different areas, such as the basement, attic or outside. By switching areas, you may notice a change in the vibration of the energy. Certain areas may make your hands feel colder, hotter or tinglier. You may even notice the change in the density of the energy.

When I do this exercise, I usually get a lot of tingly sensation around my finger tips. My hands also get warm and I can sense a magnetic type of energy. This magnetic energy tends to push and pull my hands when they are moving slow or standing still.
