What Is Junk Food: Why It Is Cheap

Examples of junk foods are candy, chips, chewing gum, ice cream, candy bars and cookies. Junk foods are usually added with chemical preservatives and synthetic nutrients. The purpose of this is to reduce their cost and extend their shelf life. Some of the most dangerous ingredients found in junk food are refined sugar, high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), monosodium glutamate (MSG), and genetically modified ingredients (GM ingredients). Genetically modified food is a hazard to your health because independent studies have linked it to birth defects, organ failure, infertility and cancer.

Most of us have been conditioned by the junk food industry and our government to believe that junk food is economical because it is cheap. What we are not told is that junk food is cheap because of government subsidies. The junk food industry has done a great job lobbying our government into supporting its unhealthy food practices. The junk food industry’s success at lobbying our government has given the junk food industry a price advantage over the organic food industry. If our government supported the organic food industry as much as the junk food industry, organic food would be just as cheap as junk food.

Corn and soybean ingredients are found in most junk food. As a result, when you eat junk food, the chance of you eating genetically modified ingredients is very high.

One of the big secrets about why junk food is cheap is that it is being supported by taxpayers. In other words, your taxes are being used by your government to support junk food. Should you be angry about this? Yes, you have every right to be angry. The hidden agenda behind making junk food cheap is to make it widely available and affordable so it can be consumed by most of us. When the majority eats junk food, this causes a dramatic increase in health problems. The increase of health problems also contributes to more visits to hospitals, which in turns produce huge profits for the conventional drug industry. The conventional food and drug industry may seem like two separate entities, but behind the scene, they work very closely together. It is all about money and greed. Junk food is not economical because it destroys our health and the environment. In the long run, junk food will help cause the destruction of civilizations because it will make health care and food very expensive.
